First of all - first post, awesome forum, hopefully I can get a lot from it over the next few years.

Just recently I was accepted to the University of Nebraska at Omaha in Pre-Medicine. I never really though about ever entering the medical field, but the more I thought about it, the more I enjoyed it, and a few life experiences kind of helped me make a decision. I start my Freshman year in just a few months and I was wondering what I can do, do get the most out of these first four years, and help me get in to Medical School. I'd like to become a Cardiologist

So far I've really done nothing, I'm an average High School Student (3.5GPA) and I got a 27 on the ACT overall. I've never really put much effort in to education because its come pretty easily to me so far. I was told that Med Schools like to see experience in the Medical Field no matter what so I started taking a Nursing Assisting Class. Assuming I pass all the state testing ill be a Basic Nursing Assistant in about 3 weeks(In Nebraska they "don't certify Nursing Assistants" whatever that means) anyways, I figured I'd give this a try for a while. There are opening right now at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Cardiology for Nursing Assistants so I figured I'd look in to that, also I thought about also being Certified as a Medication Aide(about 40 class hours) Am I on the right track or am I wasting my time?

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Looks like you are geared in on your future, and on the right track. Stay proactive; maintain a high GPA and you will be successful.

Welcome to SDN 🙂

Basically, you won't know how you're gonna do until you try; there were plenty of "average" HS students who really turn things on in college when they find their calling as pre-med. Just make sure that if this is what you really want that you don't fall into the college traps of partying too much (not that you can't have a social life, but remember what your goals are). Good luck!
