I do not have US citizenship or a green card. I got accepted to a mid ranked US MD program and will be studying as an international student. What is this considered as and how much of a disadvantage does it put me at in terms of matching during residency. During the med school app cycle, it ended up being a pretty significant burden but is that going to be the same case while matching, especially for competitive specialties/programs? I know IMGs have a much harder time during the match but as I understand it, I don't fall under that criteria.

You should apply to many more programs than a traditional US grad (double) because not all residencies will be willing to sponsor visas, and visa status will effect your competitiveness even at many programs that readily sponsor visas. You can still match at top tier programs though (edit: because you will be AMG as pointed out by ciester below), unlike most IMG's, so you are in a good position. Good luck on your adventure!

FREIDA: " Search programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or vacant positions posted by program directors. " This is where you can find information about residencies, and if i remember it correctly, they actually list if they sponsor visas or not.

Won't programs be more accommodating for visa issues for AMGs?

yes definitely, but some still want to go through as little hassle or variables as possible

You’ll be an AMG that will need visa sponsoring. Being an AMG is a very good thing when it comes to matching.
What is especially good about it? Do you mean good compared to an IMG or a domestic applicant?

Compared to an IMG. The chance of matching to a good US residency goes sth like this (as always, there will be exceptions):
US AMG (MD) > International AMG (MD) > US AMG (DO) > International AMG (DO) > US IMG > FMG.
