Madison generally accepts GPAs that are higher. Straight from the website: "We typically see unweighted, academic GPAs between a 3.5 and a 3.9, and a class rank in the 86–96 percentile." So basically to stand out, yeah you need a higher GPA. But if you do better these next two years before you apply, you could get your GPA up enough to be accepted.

As a freshman, having a ACT score of 27 is really good. You'll only go up from there. I got around the same score on my freshman practice test and my guidance counselor said that if i study i won't have a problem getting a high enough score to be accepted.

The last thing that Madison looks for are leadership roles. Whether thats being a president of a club or leading a fundraiser, you need something on that order to set you apart from others.

Talk to your guidance counselors, they will be able to tell you exactly what you need to do to get into Madison!

Good Luck! Hopefully see you there in four years! 😉

oh and as far as BS/MD, i'm not sure that Madison even allows that. I have tried looking multiple time and have never found anything saying that that is even an option.

They had a program for years. Did they get rid of it?

Don't take my word for it! lol The only thing i'm going off of is that I didn't find anything on the website after some searching. I'm sure that if they had a program they still do. So if anyone has information on that program please post!

i've read that they took the program out back in 2007. i meant, other bs/md programs out of state. should i bother? and do you guys have any advice what i should do if i want to enter med school in the future? thanks

I believe they removed it a few years ago due to the fact they thought their medical college was becoming good enough to not have to fill spots with high school applicants. As a matter of fact, I think the last class that will graduate under this program is in 2011... but I could be wrong!

I can't really speak about the BS/MD programs out of state, and if you want to try for one, go for it! You're already off to a great start and you'd just have to work on getting your GPA and ACT up (and of course volunteering/shadowing which you mentioned).

As for entering medical school, just educate yourself about the admissions process and set college goals early. Really take the time to understand your high school science classes so you have a strong foundation for college learning, and focus on getting into a a good college that will prepare you for medical school 🙂
