Hello all,
I am applying this summer for veterinary school and am panicking as I am really doubting myself. I wanted to gain some insight whether I am competitive/ if I have a chance of making it this season. I know it all depends on who else applies with me, and a clear yes/no can't be given, but I could really use some advice as to if applying now is a waste of time. I have my undergrad in gen bio, i have a 3.7 general gpa, 3.6 science gpa. 3.7 last 45 credit gpa. I will have 800 - 900 veterinary experience hours by the time I apply, and have around 400 animal experience(dog sitting/ working with rabbits). I am applying to UC davis, Western University, colorado state, washington state, oregon state, university of ten, knoxville, lincoln memorial, and uni of illinois. I know some of these are very competitive and I may not have a shot at being accepted, but I am very interested in their program. Based on my gpa and experience, am I competitive applicant or should I take a 2nd gap year as I am already taking one currently as I just graduated this past may? I am a california resident as well.

Advise you to use the standard format for better advice: WAMC Forum- Welcome

I can't comment for every school, but 3.7 GPA and 800-900 vet hours would generally put you in the competition (certainly for your IS, Davis).

Thank you! I may take you up on your advice as well and see if anyone else has any more advice or comments!

Your stats are competitive. I'd recommend applying to your instate UC Davis and from there, the most affordable OOS options. WSU, Mizzou, Purdue, etc. NC State is your most affordable OOS, but is very competitive to get into. Personally on your first cycle, I wouldn't apply to schools that are over $300k.
