Hello Everyone,

I am just finding out what my stats truly are since I have been calculating my sGPA ad cGPA all wrong! (Was averaging repeated classes and didn't know a WU is counted as an F for med schools 🙁)

Please tell me what my chances are!

-cGPA 3.43
-sGPA 3.48
-No MCAT score as of yet. Will take in Jan.
-Freshman cGPA 2.674 sGPA 2.2
Sophmore cGPA 3.363 sGPA 3.36
Junior cGPA 3.429 sGPA 3.228 (so sad! I had just transfered to a quarter school from a semester school and was unknowledgeable about time frames to withdraw from classes and was going through a hard time and withdrew from gen chem 1 and received a WU!🙁 Retook next quarter and recieved an A. Without this WU would have a 3.62 sGPA! 🙁)
Senior (where most of my premed/sciences classes are. I changed my mind halfway through my Junior year) cGPA 3.90 sGPA 3.92
-Psychology major and a minor in Chemistry
-Pretty much all A's in premed and sciences classes except a B in evolution and B- in orgo 1 (A's in orgo 2 and orgo 3). My weak point was all the basic (and by basic I mean basic) math classes I took at a cc when being a Dr was a million miles away from what I wanted to do!

EC's
-Clinical experience: 300+ hours
-Research 2.5 years. Poster presentation at a national conference and very possible 2nd author pub by the time I apply
-Shadowed: Internal med/infectious disease MD (40+hrs)
Dermatologist (40hrs)
FP DO (40hrs)
-Research with an MD (~1 year by the time I apply)
-Volunteer at the American Cancer society (~1 year by the time I apply-next cycle)
-worked for 3 1/2 years about 27+ hrs/wk (Started my job right when I decided to do premed)
-Need to get some humanitarian experience in! Will start asap!
-CA resident 🙁 Hispanic female

If my fellow URM's can let me know what they think I will really appreciate it! Not too happy right now as you can imagine 🙁

Thanks

Focus on doing well on the MCAT and you will get in somewhere. What's done is done. You have a good explanation for your grades. Keep your senior GPA very high. Show that you have mastered the material by doing well on the MCAT. You will get interviews if you do well on the MCAT. Everything else seems OK. Good luck!

Thank you UCSFstudents for the reply. Do you think that if I score a 30+ on the MCAT I might still have a chance at a California school? For me to get in somewhere (in the US-allopathic) are you thinking that I am going to need a 35+? I've seen people get with GPA's like mine but they had crazy MCAt scores like 36+! I am feeling very disillusioned right now 🙁

I think you should shoot for the highest MCAT score you can possibly get. A high MCAT score should improve your chances of getting in, and might also "make up" for your average GPA. Of course, in the end, it will be about you as a person, your overall application, interview skills, and whether you can contribute in some unique way to the medical school class. Stay positive and good luck!
