I am new to this forum and was told it be a great place to hear from students such as myself.

I graduated from Florida International University with a BA in Psych. Finished with all my pre-reqs except for Calc 1. On OptomCas GPA calculator my GPA cum is a 3.32, and a 3.20 science GPA. I have been an Optometrist medical-tech for about a year responsible for conducting Visual Fields, OCT's, Refractions, and Tonometry with Goldmann Applanation. I have learned a lot about the field and this has been a paid internship working in Hialeah Hospital at a private ophthalmology practice. I also have around 300 hours of shadowing experience with an Optometrist at an Optometry private practice.

I just sent out my OptomCas Application to: Nova, ICO, PCO, Western U, Puerto Rico, MCPHS, and Arizona. I sent my application with my OAT score pending in October of this year. I have never scored particularly well on these standardized tests and was wondering what type of score would get me accepted to my schools of choice?

Thank you

I'd say you'll get interview invites with a score of 300. Probably even a lower score for some.

Study hard and take a big breath before you go for the OAT! I think you'll be fine. Good luck.

Thanks, I keep scoring around 280-290 on practice tests. I wonder if I would receive an interview at PCO with a 290.

What are your stats like? You can message it to me if you'd like..I received an invite to interview PCO without having my OAT scores. Took the OAT this week and did poorly. I will most likely retake the OAT. The OAT was definately a lot easier than the practice tests. I didn't do well bec I didn't study the physics or ochem section. My doc told me just to take it and get some scores in... And then retake and do well.

3.32 cum GPA, 3.2 science, BA in psych. All Pre-reqs met except for microbio lab, 300 hours shadowing an optometrist, and 1500 work paid hours as an optometrist tech.

While there is certainly nothing wrong with having to retake the exam, I disagree with that approach. The 90 day wait period to retake the exam is not to anyone's advantage, so I think it's best to aim high the first time. OptoLuis, I recommend that you continue studying hard and strengthening the areas you are weak in. If timing is an issue, work on your pace and try to leave 5-10 minutes at the end of each section so you can relax and clear your mind before the next section. Like someone already said, I think scoring a 300 would be pretty solid.

What terrible advice, he/she should give you a refund on the OAT registration fee.

I'm not too happy about it either. My app got put on hold for the oat retake. My fault too though for not studying the two sections.
