My GPA according to my college. 2.98, does that round off to 3.0?

My undergrad GPA is 2.7 according to AMCAS calculation.
I finished my undergrad 3 years ago in chemical engineering, tough school, very tough.

And my GPA increased in JR and SR years.

My Grad GPA is 3.85 in Biomedical Engineering.

Overall GPA 2.8.

Do I need a really high MCAT score to compensate. Does it actually compensate?

high MCAT scores can help balance a lower GPA, but i figure most people on these forums would tell you to get that GPA higher. upward trends are good. really good EC's and LOR's is going to be important for you, too. don't count yourself out, but realize that GPA has you fighting an uphill battle.

I have a friend whose undergrad GPA was 3.0...scored a 38 on the MCAT and finished his PhD in mathematics. Interviewed on place and got in, great school to boot. The ones that were lower on his list of desirables wouldn't give him the time of day, but one did, and he loves it there. There is hope for anyone if the ciurcumstances are right.
