Hi everyone this is my first post. I just graduated from UCSC with a degree in molecular biology. My GPA is a 3.2. For my junior and senior year it is a 3.6 (if that helps me). I did pretty well my last 2 years compared to my first two years. I am a certified phlebotomist (a person who draws blood from patients), I work in a hospital. I am tutoring homeless kids and volunteering at UCLA dental department. I have not taken my DATs yet but I was wondering what are my chances of getting in to the lower end schools and how well do I need to score on the DAT. I am new to this so any feed back would be very appreciated! Thanks.😀

yes you have a chance, but make sure you do well on the DAT

always you have chance just do well on your DAT and you will be set. just be carefull! some SDNers are becoming Alergic to this kind of threads(what is my chance?) 😎

I figured my post was a little repetitive... thanks for the replies anyway.

haha... are you sure... I was thinking 63.8989548%

GPA is ok because of that strong upward trend. Your ECs are medical related not dental so I say shadow a dentist or something, just to show your interest more. Do 20+ on your DAT and you should be solid. If you come up a little short of that it's still possible though, you just wont have as good of a chance. Good luck...

hey gabe judging by your EC's you should be applying to med school

do lots of dental shadowing....

do the best you can on the DAT, I was shooting for a 20/20, but only ended up with 18/19 and still have 2 interviews and waiting to hear back from some others. do the best you can on the DAT and Apply Early (wish i applied in june)

Submit in early June and like others have stated, it comes down to the DAT to compromise for your lower GPA.

If I were u I would take the DAT. If it's 20+ in nearly every section, I would apply. If not, I would do a masters. Everyone is different though.

You have a chance. all ECs look great. You do need to get ALOT of hours in a dental office. I had a 3.24 with a 3.7 upperclass GPA, I just mentioned that to everyone in my interviews. And I was a second yr applicant, what I did to impove was ask the interviewers what was missing or below average on my application. Luckily where im going they focus mostly on AA and PA with alot riding on PA, (lucky for me). But i did everything they told me to and worked for it. If you could get an outsiders opinion on your app. (like an adcom, or something like that) to tell you what you should improve. But save yourself some time and just study for the DAT and nail it.. That was my problem, i didn't study. if you do well on DAT you can set yourself apart.

I got advice like this last year, sooooo glad I didn't listen...
A dentist I shadowed told me my chances were low, but he said "Don't listen to the people who say you can't. Take a stab at it, let the admissions committee decide if you deserve it or not". Best advice ever...

why would you shoot for a 20/20 when the maximum score is a 30/30? it sounds like you WANT to be mediocre......

wow. did you apply to like 40 schools? kudos to you for going through that administrative nightmare...

i wouldn't call what you did a stab, but instead a stab blindfolded, and drunk beyond belief with a sewing needle. jeeeze

^^Why are you so rude? It worked for him and it looks like you are still waiting for an acceptance so...
