I got a score of 84 and my GPA is 3.8. What are my chances of gettin in with this score and GPA and 3 years of experience in my country. Does having a greencard make any difference? And is there any such thing that difficulty level of exam is different at different period of time of year? Or is there a usual format of exam?

Having a Greencard helps a lot..

1. Get certified in radiolgy and get a job as dental assistant, u dnt have to be volunteer, get a normal office paying job. If you are in florida, work as dental hygienist.

2. You can apply to all the schools that offer advanced standing..defintiyl approx 10 more schools to apply than non citizens.. search on ADA site for list of accredited advanced standing programs.

3. if you have dental/med school nearby..search there are get some research assistant job

Overall, build a nice resume, get some decent LOR's and as you can't retake nbde now, so doing these things should compensate for your score.

I got 82,gpa 3.71 and am too green card holder. Am thinking of working as dental assistant after i take part2. So,where i can get certificate in radiology ? To work as hygienist at florida what should i do? Do i need to take dental hygienist test if i am through part2?

I think dr37 pretty much summed it up. Green Card makes a difference because it allows you to apply to more programs. And so does your toefl score which is always underestimated by people.

Hey chickchok..
Why are you volunteering when u have a green card..get an official paid job in dental office.. that shows that you are capable enough to be paid.

if you want volunteer experience, do it at any hospital, red cross centre, hospice, charity organization nearby, NOT the dental office. You have trained to be a dentist, dnt volunteer there, you are capable enough and have legal right to work, then why dnt you????

A green card does not make ANY difference, and I am 100% sure.
Only Indians and I don't know why they say that it does make a difference.
I know some schools require a green card, like UIC, but anywhere else it does make any difference. I asked and asked and asked about it.
It makes paying the money after the acceptance easier but does not interfere with the decision.
And to prove it. go to any school let's take BU for example and ask them how many students from the 75 people accepted last year have green cards, I bet less than 20%, because of the fact that 50 of the 75 are Indians and very small portion of Indians have green card or citizenship.
Again, I am a green card holder and I wish it makes some difference, I got rejected from 8 schools in the past 2 years. lol, good luck to all of us.

I am sorry to tell you that a green card plays a role!
I have heard of some people who were preferred to some other who had superior stats!
But then if your GPA is skyhigh and board scores are soaring, it overshadows this status.

In almost every application, there is a check box asking what type of visa you have... why do you think they ask that? definitely not for statistics!

I don't mean to discourage anyone, we are all in the same boat...

Hi, read my statements again..i Do NOT say thay they will prefer you for the reason that you have greencard.. but instead having a green card HELPS you prepare your "OVERALL PROFILE" better.

See you dnt have to worry abt visa issues.. you can work and get paid..so less stress and more time to focus one exams than visa holders..

Get to work in dental office..learn the dental system here..which will definitly help you prepare better for exam.. same time you can prepare for the bench exam in the clinic u are working..Get to teach in dental assisting school..build your resume and blah blah blah..Plus you get to apply to lot more schools than non citizens/Non GC..even if they have 5 seats..still you have proportionatly more chances..

Having a greencard does NOT automatically increase your chances for acceptance but rather helps you to have a stronger candidate profile, and thts what they schools need, a strong profile..you make it being a GC/being a non GC..that doesn't matter much..(thts what i have learnt from my seniors)

Yeah i totally get u dr37!!!! I have already started to work towards it...its just that doing the job and putting in 5-6 hours for studying looks hard..do u know a better way to do it?? that is one of the reasons i m volunteering in a non profit organisation which is flexible and i can concentrate on my studies as well...and getting this job is soooo tough!!! Am i right??
