I have a 3.3 GPA and a 380 0AT. I feel like my GPA is really low compared to what I have been reading in some of the threads. My university was so hard and demanding it really affected my GPA. Is it worth applying for the 2012 class?

I am sure with your will get into opt school with that stats. Just make sure you shadow a few optometrists before you apply.

Thanks for replying! I am going to be working in a eye care center next semester, but apart from shadowing my optometrist for 15 hours or so that's all I really have for optometry experience. I do have three years experience working in clinical research. I'm not sure if that will help me chances greatly or not.

Your OAT looks good and your GPA is low, but not too low .... go ahead and apply, particularly if you feel like you could give a great interview!

I think you're stats are good. what you may have been lacking in your gpa you made up for with your OAT score. I think now that multiple med schools, including Harvard, have started looking at extracurricular activities just as heavily if not heavier than academics; there is a trend to not just accept students based on academics. the shift towards more "personable" physicians is dominating every field, except maybe dentists. just get your apps in before they fill all seats and try not to be a social introvert in your interviews.

I just noticed, are you pre-dental or are you pre- optometry?

Thank you all so much! This makes me feel more confident going into the application process.
To the above post: Yes, I am pre-optometry. This is my friend's account who is pre-dental and I sometimes just sneak on to post on the optometry forum. 🙂
