Hey Everyone! I wanted to get some of your opinions on my chances of getting in Optometry school during this application process. My gpa is 3.3 and I have done an Internship and have shadowed and dome some work with more than one Optometrist. My OAT scores however are kinda on the lower than average side. I have received information about the POP program at NOVA so far, do you think this would be the only way I would get accepted in their program during this application process by doing the program? I also got word from PCO to retake my OAT again, in which I have already taken it twice. From my first test to my second test I only went up ten points, a little disheartening considering all the study I had done. However I do not feel as if my scores on my OAT represent me as a person or reflect my abilities as a student. I just wanted some feedback on what to do, or if I stand a chance of getting accepted. I applied to four schools however, I have stayed in contact weekly with NOVA. NOVA and PCO are my top choices right now.

I think you have a good chance - but obtaining a better OAT score would help you tremendously. I was in a similar situation last year, but I had a great OAT - which only took me 2 months to study for - I learned most of the stuff on my own since I didn't take the prereqs yet (I'm an engineer). If I can do it, so can you. With a good OAT, I applied literally on the deadline (end of Feb) to only one school and got in. It might seem hard, but retaking the OAT would be much faster/easier than taking more courses to boost your GPA.
If you choose not to take the OAT, I'd say you still have a decent chance. With more schools opening, the admission average will drop. Your GPA of 3.3 is very solid for optometry schools. Good luck!

If NOVA only offers me a seat during this application process by doing the POP program do you think I should take their offer. I have already decided to go interview, but I really wish I could be accepted without having to do that whole POP program for a year. I won't be able to take the OAT again till March 15, and I am afraid that will put me close to not getting a seat since I am sure a lot of seats have already been filled by then. I just really want to be accepted, this is something I am so passionate about and I have waited for, for so long.
