What are my chances

First off your GPA is way below the average of people that get into Optometry school let alone any graduate school. Secondly, you really need to take the OAT as some people, including myself consider it the #1 biggest predictor of getting into Optometry school. Thirdly, you might have to explain that harassment conviction during your interviews and when applying for a license to practice in certain states. Also, since you spell your name "LiKe DiS" I really question your maturity.

My screen name bothered you that much? I didnt know what else to put. I cant say anything about my maturity level at the time of the incident because clearly I lowered myself to a level I shouldnt have. Even with a better gpa and awesome OAT score would this be a deal breaker or not. I have been in eye care for more than 8yrs and I am dedicated to this field. I agree that my OAT score will speak volumes in comparison to my gpa, it hasn't been recalculated yet but either way I just wanted to know if it was a deal breaker. Adjudication was withheld which means I was not actually convicted of the charge simply an agreement that i agree that I called/texted but not a guilty verdict.

Yes, you'll definitely get in. Like totally! omg you just have to try really hard on the test!!! Just stay positive!! XOXOXO 😀 😀

dont listen to anyone....if you want it bad enough then make it happen...

I wasn't trying to be rude until my second post. I just wanted to give you an honest opinion because you asked for an opinion. Why is honesty under-appreciated nowadays? I'd rather someone tell me the truth rather than string me along or wait until I've spend $500 on tests and applications and a few years of my life to later find out my efforts were in vain. And yes, if you truly dedicate yourself and spend a few years boosting your application, its possible. But it will be far from easy.

OK everyone i need some advice here! I am about to submit my app and i want to know if anyone has any input. I have a mediocre gpa (2.8) and have 8 yrs working with ODs, member of a few optometry based clubs at school plus other extra curricular clubs. i havent taken the OAT yet but my biggest concern is that about 3 yrs ago i got into some legal trouble for texting and calling a girl my bf of 8yrs cheated on me with. I now have sealed records for a "harassing phone calls" charge...will this above all else keep me from getting an interview and getting admitting anywhere. I know that its childish and stupid and i could go on about how it wasnt fair to be charged but 8 calls and 5 texts but its there and i cant do a thing about it. any advice on wording for explaining my situation in optomcas? do i have a chance and at all. my gpa may go up from recalculating but who knows. i just dont want a stupid mistake to keep me from my dreams? PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE!!!!:scared::scared::scared:

Just do really well on OAT ( 350 and above) and you will be fine. You experience with ODs is a big plus, stay positive. OAT is not that hard anyways. I wouldn't worry too much about the call/text situation. Good luck!

Shnurek, how's is the 2nd year so far?

Shnurek, I understand..I know its an uphill battle just add long as its possible

I wouldn't even apply, the first thing they do is check if you have a clean record. And yes there was a background check. Not to mention your low GPA lol. Maybe you should have considered what the consequences would be before you harassed ur ex? lol or should have gotten a better lawyer? It sounds like you have some serious issues to work on.

Rather than rely on the advice of anonymous Internet posters who are not on any admissions committees, why not call the schools you are interested in applying to and getting the answer from the horses mouth??

I am not sure how your legal situation will work for optometry schools. I don't believe it will look good but everyone does make mistakes. Be prepared to explain it well, especially in interviews. I would definitely call the schools you are planning to apply and talk to an admissions counselor to see what they will think of your situation.

As far as your chances, I feel like your GPA will hurt you. Your experiences/ec's are a plus. If I were you I would dedicate all the time you have in making your OAT your #1 priority at this point. Don't rush and take it because you want to apply this cycle. TAKE YOUR TIME. Your chances of getting interviews will most likely come down to your OAT score. You really need to do well on this to have a good chance. Aim for a range between 320-350. If you manage to do that then I will believe you should get an interview. My science gpa was around a 3.2 but my oat scores were a 360TS/330AA and I was able to get interviews. Hopefully this helps.

Where do you plan on applying?
