Hey all.
curious if anyone has been in my shoes and matched. I’ve got audition rotations scheduled but I want to be realistic.

Great comments. Honored all but FM and OB.

What are my realistic chances of matching Derm first go? My school has no idea. I have no idea.

You're unlikely to have much success with ACGME programs since you will be screened out at the vast majority purely for being DO and although your step is a little above average for derm, your research is low. There are only a handful of ACGME programs in the country that interview or match DOs. However if you audition at 4-7 previously AOA programs, you'd probably have a very decent shot, but still not a guarantee as the derm match is cut-throat regardless.

EDIT: Also I see you might be DO/PHD and that may help you break into some of the previously MD residencies, since PhDs tends to be viewed very favorably among dermatology programs.

Yeah specifically auditioning at previously AOA only because I’m aware of this. Would be 100% happy with a previously AOA program.

About as good as any other DO applying derm probably. Plan your auditions accordingly

Based on the DO NMRP charting outcomes you have a solid chance and your scores are significantly higher than the average matched applicant. Crush your auditions.

The best use of your effort would be to apply to all Derm Programs with Osteopathic Recognition. There are 4 in the country. Rotate through all of them.

[0802500142] Beaumont Health (Farmington Hills)
[0802800117] Still OPTI Program
[0803500129] St Barnabas Hospital Program
[0803821120] Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals

There’s also like 26 former aoa derm programs in total that still primarily take DO’s also apply to MD places that have taken DO’s in the past.

The 22 other former AOA programs that are not recognized osteopathically are taking MDs just by sheer numbers of applicants. As a DO, with a limited amount of rotation time, I would invest in the osteopathically recognized programs with protected DO positions.

Also, many of the ex-DO programs have many of the core faculty already replaced by MDs when the sponsoring institution is converted from OPTI to ACGME accredited hospitals or Health Systems. Many of these programs are now no different than any other ACGME programs in terms of selection and MD Preference.

From the few classmates that matched dermatology, you're not far off from them. The problem you will have is with networking. You will need to do a lot of away rotations and work in each like a dog. It will not be easy, but it is wat it'll take
