I'm a second-year medical student, and was just wondering what other M2's on this forum are planning to do over winter break. Any advice from the M3's and M4's? Obviously, relaxing after semester exams will be in my plans, but is there anything else I should be doing over break that might be helpful for boards and getting into a residency?

Thanks,
an M2 from Illinois

dude, I'm finishing up my studying for Step 1 in May. don't want to have to worry about it in the spring semester.............

Ski trip before Christmas, then going to Chicago for New Year's with some friends.

I scheduled my boards as late as possible. I'd advise you to do the same. The only reason you need to start your boards campaign now is if you want to tell people later on that you "only studied for four weeks". 😉 Enjoy your break. 🙂

I was thinking about reviewing some first year stuff for boards, but I'm afraid of burning out, cause I'm already burned out as it is. M3s or M4s what to do?

If you are burned out then you must recharge😉

I will be spending the break crying over the 800+ bones I dropped on paying for Step 1 and Qbank 😡

It's only money.

Think of the joy you have to look forward to....all those midnight manual disimpactions during intern year.

The glory of medicine.

Embrace the horror. 😀

i am going to the UP (in michigan) to ski and hike and see my mom. then i'm playing drunken board games w/the rest of my family back down here. then i may go to ohio. then i'm flying out to phoenix to visit my sister for new years eve and going to see the grand canyon. oh yay my last vacation for years!

ps i'm taking step one on april 22. my school has a new curriculum and the 6 weeks they give us off for misc step 1 stuff is basically the last week of march until the first week of may. (we're into our 3rd year clerkships in the 2nd week of may or so.) and i'm not studying for it over my LAST CHRISTMAS BREAK EVER either. 😀

durango and wolf creek baby!!!!!!!

5 days of glorious boarding...hopefully there'll be tons of the white stuff coming down while i'm on the slopes.

they don't pay for your Qbank??? that sucks 😛

and for those who don't know I'm super sarcastic, there is no way I'm studying for the boards over break 😀

Your school pays for Q bank??? Nice 👍

Anyway as for break, I don't know about you, but 2 weeks is going to fly by for me--- I might browse First Aid if I'm bored but I doubt it. Just relax and enjoy yourself.

Winter break? It's only a week. 🙁

But I'll probably spend that week playing Halo 2. 😀

I go to a state school and they didn't pay for qbank for us, but some guy in our class passed out a pirated version of qbank on disk, that's almost as good. 😀

Why do I get the feeling that you are a joy to be around?

Ok dude, the rest of us are going to tank Step I because we chose to chill for 10 days over break? Whatever.🙄 You must still be high on Thanksgiving turkey 👎

Sometimes the weak fall precisely because they never take a break. Enjoy your vacation. Build up your strength. I took a break on my vacation and I did well on my boards. Time off to recharge is BENEFICIAL to your studies. 😉

Read my post. That's exactly my point. 😉

Yeah, I re-read it and edited my post. I fully support the point you make 😀

We are doing pulmonary for two weeks before break...I plan to stay on top of things now so I don't have to do a thing over break. I am going home. I can't wait! It will be so fun (compared to med school at least)! 🙂

I'm visiting friends in Texas, and going to see my mom. Then I'll probably come back and work a little for some extra $$$, so I can go skiing over Mardi Gras. I have another break in June after the USMLE, so I'm not pining over my last bit of freedom just yet.
