What are some good undergradaute research universities?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What does this mean? Schools known for allowing undergraduates to do research or schools known for the work that the undergraduates produce. If it is the latter, I'm sure it's none of them because at the end of the day very few undergraduates produce anything of substantial meaning/use to the world that wasn't principally conceived by someone else.

If the former, then I'm not sure but I would say that almost any school will let undergrads do research and you'll probably have better chances at schools where more professors are doing research but that shouldn't hold you back from choosing a school to attend.

MIT- I heard they have a blackjack research project that helps you get into Harvard Med School

Is there a list of schools known for undergraduate research?

Large state universities on average have more research opportunities than private universities. However, you can find research opportunities anywhere.

Check out your local state school because everyone should because it's convenient and cheap. If you live in a state with a good state school, that would probably be your best bet. I ended up doing that and was able to get some great research done.

Still, research can really be found anywhere, so find a bunch of schools you like (based on location, cost, etc), and then check out the research opportunities.

Obviously, if you have top gpa/ECs/SAT, top tier private schools would be better than a state university or public ivy (Virginia, Mich, Wisc, etc)

My guess is those rankings classify research vaguely, encompassing all areas. If you're looking for something biomedical/health-related (research more valuable in med school applications) I recommend the University of Washington. Wide variety of awesome opportunities within the university itself and among affiliates. Seattle is a biomed research mecca.

Aside, it's a reputable school, ranked as one of the best in the world (16th and 55th by two different studies). The education you can get here alongside great research experience is a huge plus.

I did my undergrad here, so I am obviously biased. Nonetheless, great school, great research in a great location.
