Lemme know!

Not really any "low tier" medical schools (atleast here in the US), but there are medical schools with lower average GPA/MCAT scores. Some that come to mind are Rosalind Franklin, Rush, and the historically black medical schools. Invest in the MSAR if you want to know more about all US Allo med schools 🙂

Low MCAT was more what I'm going for. My score was 509 so it's not that great. Already have a DO acceptance but I'm looking into my options.

for next cycle? Look at msar for schools that have mcat averages similar to yours

It's far too late to apply this year and it would be pretty foolish to throw away an acceptance to apply next year.

PS why are black medical schools low in averages?

A 509 is similar to a MCAT 30. Is it balanced? Since you're already in the app process, why are you asking for names of low tier MD schools? Did you apply to any? Did you apply to all in your state?

As mentioned above, there really aren't "low tier MD med schools" in this county.

True, to a degree. Harvard/Yale/Stanford/Pitt/Vandy grads will have better pickings than Drexel/LSU/EVMS/Wake/SLU grads, in terms of competitive specialties at Big Name residencies.

Albany
Drexel
Jefferson
Rush
EVMS
VCU
NYMC
Netter
Temple
U WV
WFU
GWU
Gtown
Oakland-B
Western MI
A number of other state schools and Mercer (but these are very in-state biased).

I'm just another random, non-AdCom poster, but I wouldn't consider Jefferson low tier.

I'd also question the inclusion of Georgetown, as well as WFU, VCU and maybe Temple as low tier medical schools.

Jefferson and Temple should technically be considered mid tiers since they are growing research/academic medical centers. They are certainly a tier above Drexel/PCOM and well below Penn so yeah i agree there.

But i guess low tier is really used loosely as a sense of where to apply with borderline stats.

I have a high opinion of Jefferson. It's all about where one makes the cutoffs in LizzyM score.

U Penn = 77
Jeff, SLU = 70
Temple= 69
Drexel= 69
Penn State = 69

Y'all know this game. Ask six people, you'll get seven opinions.

More fun with MSAR:
U KS LizzyM = 67, but has more research money than Jefferson ($45 mill vs $37 mill)!
I wouldn't exactly consider U KS as a research titan.

I was surprised to see that Temple gets more research money ($54 mill) than Jeff....I thought it was the other way around. Penn State gets about the same as Jeff, a surprise to me as well.

If you don't take the DO acceptance and reapply next year you will not be accepted to another DO program so therefore no backups if you don't score an acceptance in a crazy competative MD world. Why are you thinking about this? I'm a little confused by your thought process

probably the ones you dont hear about a lot

I agree. Patients generally want to see a doctor, they don't care where you went, I guess prestige of med school matters if you are gunning for a prestigious academic medicine career. In my town we have a bunc of foreign docs their practives are just as busy as the American educated doctors. At the large academic hospital most of the residents came from some prestigious school, and big name undergrad. At the local hospital one of the main chiefs or something is a foreign educated doctor. Overall? patient doesn't care lol, they just want to feel better
So yeah I'm going to 2nd the above post and say there are no low tier schools just schools that aren't very prestigious.

I don't know about Canadian friendliness, but in terms of competitiveness and stats, but Einstein, Boston U, and possibly Stony Brook are not low tier. I'm not super familiar with all the schools on your list, but those three stand out.

Most of your list isn't low-tier and I don't think a lot of them are particularly Canadian friendly (ie all the state schools that don't even accept a lot of OOS students)
