what are the best materials to use to study for the biochem portion of mcat

kaplan biochem was good IMO. If you have the extra time, check out lehninger principles of biochemistry ( its was recommended by a lot of people who scored really high in that section, but it is VERY dense)
 
I used lehninger for amino acids and enzyme kinetics and it was super helpful, and I'm pretty sure you can just download a PDF of it for free online
 
when you study. Sit down and don't get up until you understand the main points/concepts. Deactivate facebook, twitta, or whatever social media you use. Use google/youtube to solidify concepts you have trouble with, most likely there will be thousands of videos about it.
