You are correct...there are 50 experimental questions. You cannot tell which ones they are. They may be easy or hard. I believe that these questions are used to measure the amount of intellectual progression accuring in medical education. As time goes on and discoveries are made students improve their basic knowledge above those from years in the past. This progression is very noticable if you compare students from 1989 and 2006 but very small when you compare 2005 and 2006. Such that questions that show a level of increased difficulty on 2005 could then be used on 2006 too keep intellectual inflation in check.
