What are the "pros and cons" of a "No show" on Step 1. Ordered list or not.. They have already told me:

  • that it won't go on my USMLE transcript
  • that it will require reapplication and a multiple week waiting period; i.e., possibly 2 months rechedule
  • it will require me to pay again for the exam (and yes, money isnt growing on trees anywhere nearby)
  • I don't know if another way residency programs may see this information (if know, please share)

Pros - you can't fail if you don't show up
Cons - All the uncertainties that you can avoid by simply rescheduling (assuming your date hasn't passed already).

|Exxtended once... can't extend a second time.. I had multiple year end issues and couldn't fit in Step 1 study time, and so clock was ticking on multiple issues.. I've been multitasking best I could. If I did, it going to require me to repay for new Step 1 app.. is there any way a residency committe would see I was a "no show"? FYI, I would cancel the date in the system early and open slot up to another test taker.

I extended the MAX once testing window.. is there a way a residency committee would see I was a "no show".. even if they could know.. how bad does this sound?

AFAIK, it's not a "no-show" (major red flag on score report) unless you don't cancel it ahead of time & let your scheduled date pass before reapplying. I'm pretty sure you can cancel your date & reapply. Talk to your school admins & find out for sure.
