What are the rules regarding Step 2 CS?

I mean, do we have to take it before interviewing?

Do we have to pass it to get into a residency?

Or can we fail it and still get into a residency?

Do residencies set any deadlines for taking it?


Any help you could offer would be of much use. THANKS !

On the FRIEDA website - all of the info on anesthesiology programs have been updated regarding whether or not you have to pass the CS before starting. I probably shouldn't say all, because I honestly didn't look at all of them. The 20 or so ones I looked at the other day have been updated.

Since it is pass/fail, I can't imagine that this info is usefull in terms of programs deciding who to interview or even who to rank....

Of course, i have been wrong about many, many things in the past and will be wrong again many times in the future!

i know some schools in chicago that did not require it to graduate and some of those students matched in another state at programs that did not require it... however they were not able to start on time because they were not able to get their temp training licenses without having passed it.. so they ended up starting a few weeks late...

its such an easy test... just take it and get it out of the way.. better to be safe than sorry
