What are top programs in Chicago area?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I would say University of Illinois-Chicago and Northwestern. Rush is also pretty good. It sort of depends of personal fit and what specifically you are looking for in a program....

From what I remember along the interview trail

University of Illinois - Chicago.
Northwestern
Rush / University of Chicago/ Advocate Lutheran General
Loyola
Rosalind Franklin

and that wraps it up!

Reputation and research money pretty much determines the "top" psych programs in chicago, so take this info with a grain of salt....errr...maybe since we're talking chicago...a flake of snow. hahaha

😀

Out of the top programs in Chicago, does any one of them rank highest for child/adolescent Psych?

In my opinion, the ranking for child really doesn't matter. None of those programs you mentioned are known as top chlid programs (i.e. that would help you get a career in academics). I think you are really best served going to the program you like the best.

Actually, UIC is known for being excellent in child psych (they recently acquired most of U of C's top child faculty.)

just curious what are the top child programs?

I spoke to several psych and child psych faculty about it, but I don't remember the whole list. I do not remember any Chicago programs being on it, but that could be an error on my part. (Also, the delineation between "good" and "not good" programs, in addition to being subjective, may not be current - i.e. based more on recent history/reputation than the current state of the program). What I have heard mentioned as top child programs: some NY programs (don't remember which ones because I have on interest in moving to NY), UCLA, Yale, possibly UNC. Penn has historically had a very good child program, but I have heard that they are in a bit of a rough patch right now (at least that is what they have told some interviewees). I'm drawing a blank on the rest. 👎

I spoke to several program directors along the interview trail all over the midwest, new york, and florida...and they all mentioned UIC as moving into the top programs for child psych ever since they acquired university of chicago child psych faculty.

RustNeverSleeps,

What were the top child psych programs in NYC if you don't mind? as I'm interested in setting up an elective in a psych subspecialty. Thanks.
