So, this may seem like a silly question, but what are you bringing to your interviews?

I was thinking of bringing a briefcase bag I could leave with my coat. Therein, maybe have a leather portfolio-style folder with a notepad, and maybe a copy of my application, directions, etc. That said, I could be completely wrong, and value others' perspectives.

So, fill me in - what will you bring/have you brought to your interview(s)?

I think the briefcase/bag is excessive. There's really no need.

All you really need is a pen. I have been bringing a leather folder to all my interviews, but I find that almost every school I have visited gives you a folder. I brought mine to hold a copy of my AMCAS app and secondary app.

You don't want to be weighed down by having excessive amounts of "stuff"

All I ever brought was a portfolio. I've never even had to open it at an interview. I kept a driver's license and credit card in there just in case, a pen, notepad and map.

I brought a briefcase-type bag to my first interview, but it was just so "in the way" and unnecessary so I ended up leaving it in the room where people could leave their luggage/coats.

After that I just brought a black portfolio with me that had a legal pad, pen, and copies of my AMCAS and secondary app.

A simple folder with pen and paper. Don't need much else. Anything else about my primary or secondary or whatever I kept in my Dropbox account and looked it up on my smartphone.

In your pockets: an easily accessible pen.

In your bag/briefcase/purse: your drivers license, one ATM card, one credit card with plenty of room, your (silenced) cell phone, 3-5 "airplane size" bottles of hard liquor, a handkerchief, six Advil, a relatively small Swiss Army knife, a single live round of 9 mm ammunition, half a banana, and a photo of Willie Nelson or Omar Little.

That will get you through almost any situation.

You forgot the cyanide capsule.

briefcase is overkill, a nice folder will suffice.

Anything you need they will supply for you.

Aside from your phone/wallet, etc.

No portfolio, no briefcase, no copy of your application.

unnecessary. all i've ever brought i could fit into my pockets. bring all the school information, supplemental essays, directions, and pens you want...they can fit in your jacket pockets.

I need lip gloss and lotion and water and a change of shoes for walking on tours. So I always brought a briefcase type bag with me. I was never sorry I brought it. The one time I left it I was SUPER sorry. But that is just me.

I only brought a pen and a small little notepad that fit in my jacket. I only used it at one window to write down a book that one of my interviewers suggested I read.

my bowstaff and an awsome story about killing wolverines with my uncle

I brought my normal gear: keys, cell phone, wallet. A pen might be a good idea but I'm sure the people setting up the interviews could spot you one.

Just brought myself. Saw some folk with leather folders/portfolios. You will be supplied with a pen and a folder of information about the school at most interviews.

I think I had a granola bar in my pocket at one interview in case I got hungry.

Also, for the record, med school interviews really shouldn't be anything to stress about. Just make sure you can talk about your application and have a normal conversation. Most interviewers aren't looking to grill you.

Same. I usually had my backpack + suitcase in their office, so if I needed paper/pen, I could get them, but otherwise, I didn't bring anything. They give you lots of stuff to carry anyway. (water, informational materials, pen, etc.)

You don't really need much. You'll get a folder, so no need for a portfolio. You definitely don't need a copy of your application.

Usually you get a pen, but at a few of mine they weren't given out, so bring one. Bring money too in case you have to pay for lunch. Most schools will provide it, but sometimes they give out funny money to the cafeteria and it ends up not being enough.

This is really helpful Silver (and everyone else). I think I am just spooked as I'm getting ready for the 1st interview in my cycle, and don't want to feel like the new kid in school who shows up with a lunch box, when the cafeteria is where it's at.

If you're gonna bring one, do it right.
