For those who are starting Optometry school this Fall, what are your plans this summer? I quit my minimum wage soul sucking job, thinking of taking a vacation to India before I surrender my life to Optometry. Anybody else have big plans this summer?

I'm still in undergrad. I am planning to take the entire physics series over the summer.

I bet you're jealous.

Anyone here ever done physics I and II during the summer and want to talk me out of it?

q1we3, ohhhhh India! That's nice. Do you know any one there that can tour you around? Or going alone to have some adventure? =)

Chip Chipperson, it'll be good. At least the subject will be fresh in your brain before you start (esp Physics II). My optometrist recommend me to brush-up on that because he remembered lots of his classmates having a hard time with optics.

I'll probably keep my job until end of June. After that, chill time and see some of my friends on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Because after graduation, they want to go camping, hiking, and go around the island before everyone depart and go to our separate ways. Oh man, there will be A LOT of PICTURE-taking time. bwahaha. I don't mind sharing some nature scenery type, but not portrait-like for privacy reason. =)

Nothing like being stuck in class learning F=ma when others are tanning on the beach. Enjoy!

That's great! I think some sort of break is a must before starting another 4-5 years of schooling. I will be going alone but I know people there, want to check out Goa and Agra, city of Taj Mahal. Should be fun!

Sounds fun. I'll travel for a month and maybe find a short-term summer job for the money.
Just wondering....how much earlier do you guys plan on settling down there before school starts? I assume most of us are moving to another city.

q1we3, OH MY!!!!!!! That is so exciting. I'm guessing you did some research on how much this vacation will cost. So, just wondering how much do you think you'll be spending on this trip? You're making me want to go to a foreign country too. hehe

sugarandspice, where do you want to travel to? In regards to work, I hope you find an employer that is willing to take you for a relative short period of time. Let us know how that works out. As for settling down to our school, hmmmmmm I didn't plan that aspect yet.

I want to be settled in few weeks before classes start, so I know where everything is. I guessing early August. Good luck with finding a short-term job, you pretty much have to lie to get hired for few months. I told at my interview that I am looking for 3-4 months never got I call back lol. So much for being honest.

haha india...what made you choose that specific country?

Slumdog millionaire, haha just joking. Don't know anyone in Japan or China. Already been to UK, nothing different. Don't want to go to Iraq or Iran or Pakistan. India was the only one left lol.

Flight will be the only expensive part. $1000 = roughly 50,000 rupees which is more than enough to last at least 2 months if spent wisely. Staying at close friend relative's house who is leaving soon. So, no expensive hotel or need of a car. Round trip flight will be around $1100.

That movie is the BOMB!👍

Wow, that is cheap.

I was thinking of summer camp leader that kind of thing lol...so probably 2 or 3 weeks long. If not, I'll just chill. Ya it's probably a good idea to settle down at least 2 weeks before to get everything sorted out

This does make me a little nervous, but I don't think I'll be able to move in until a day or two before orientation starts! I currently have a full-time job, so I plan on working until the end of July, then I have to attend a wedding. I would be able to get there a week or so before classes start, but I imagine I'll have a hard time finding a landlord who will let me start a lease on a really random day of the month?

I agree, unless it's a summer camp or summer internship, most companies will not want to spend a lot of time training you to get only a month of solid work from you. Some of my friends have gotten jobs in retail by lying and saying they plan to stay for a year or so.

I'll be going to South Africa on a mission trip right after my undergrad thesis defense, and then to Europe after that to see family

I'm going to Honduras on a 2 week service trip with other medical professionals. Cost will be about $1000. I will be starting this Fall, but do not know where I am attending yet! Other than that, maybe a Vegas trip (or 2) and a road trip up the beautiful Pacific Coast

Going to Argentina to visit a friend in May. WOHOoo!

I'll probably go to the beach with my parents, maybe go somewhere with my college friends, bike, swim, relax, and most of all try to spend as much time as I can with family and friends. I'm also going to work with a children's reading program for a little bit. I'm definitely looking forward to the summer.

This is my first summer without classes! I am going to dance camp for the whole month of July in Vancouver, spending as much time with friends as possible as who knows where they may be at the end of my four years of optometry school, and then moving in wherever I decide on going at the beginning of August to allow time to find "my spot"s to eat, drink, dance, enjoy myself, and buy furniture.

Ugh, buying furniture. I am not looking forward to that. Where are you headed? I'm also a dancer and would be interested in having someone to check out studios and performances with!

sounds dumb, but I wanna learn to skateboard and swim bc I dont know how to do those yet. lol
