I am starting on either Cards or Nephro, then going to Peds Ward. Yeah, medicine...oh well, better than neurosurg, trauma or ortho I guess.

What's everyone else doing? I imagine a lot of people are starting on orientation or ED right? My program only has 2 months in the ED first year, so it's a true intern year.

Orientation, followed by trauma.

Wook

First 3 months in the ED. Actually 4 out of my first 5 months are in the ED. Lots of offservice after that.

orientation for 1 week and then the first month in the ed. not sure after that...

Orientation for a month, then a month of EMS & Ultrasound. That should be nice. Then 2 ED months.

Orientation for a month, also, then ENT/Ophtho

I do 1 month of orientation, then either 2 weeks ed or vacation.. All my off service is in the 2nd half of the yr.

My first 3 months will be in the ED. We do 7 months in the ED our first year and I can't wait as my Transitional Year is winding down (I'm at what was a 2-4 program when I applied, but will be a 1-4 on the upcoming application cycle).

also finishing up prelim year... start w/ 1 month orientation, then 2 wks vacation, 2 weeks ED, 1 month ortho.

Orientation? What's that? My first day they threw me in the E.D. saying "There's a guy with DKA somewhere in the E.D. go work him up"

I hear ya, no orientation here either. Our orientation comes at the end of 1st year. Which will be a nice break for sure after intern year. I will be working up hyponatremia??!! What the hell? I had a great nephro staff that taught me some stuff, but damn, to start on beans....yikes!!!!!

Orientation month, then cardiology. After that, Peds floor and then Medicine floor. I don't hit the ED until November. Oh well.....Bring it on!! 😀

Orientation month then trauma. I tried to front load the toughest off-service months.

Orientation for a month, including confidence course and fire training! They really believe in camaraderie building the first month. Then I have an ED month, followed by a trauma month. Including Peds ED, we have 5 months of ED first year...a great schedule!

Yeah, I'm orientation then MICU. This really amplifies the "wait, what, I'm a doctor? there must be some mistake" feeling I have heading into graduation.

Sure as hell hope it isn't OB

if it is, life can only get better 🙂

Haven't gotten my schedule yet. We have 1 week of orientation at the beginning of June and then off until July 1. With my luck, I'll have our house officer month first...but at least it'd be over with.

All the interns are on orientation in July, then I go to the CCU. Luckily, there will be a 2nd year EM resident in the CCU then, too, so I won't be alone, at the mercy of medicine residents. 😉 My March-May will be rough, as I do truama, then neurosurg, then medicine. Ah, the joys of internship. One of my peds EM attendings once told me: "Anyone can do anything for a month." So think of your off-service rotations that way.
