Hello!

I was wondering what else I can do to improve my list of extracurriculars so that I can have a well-rounded application for medical school. Here's the list so far:

  • Pre-health Club = 2 years
    • Did 60 hours of volunteering through club
    • Inducted into Honor society sophmore year
  • Christian Club = 2 years
    • On E-board this year.
  • Indian Student's Club = 2 years
    • Participated in talent shows.
  • Research
    • 1 semester Freshman year
    • Currently as a junior, working to develop an effective method to test for sickle cell disease in third world countries (working on publication)
  • Hospital Volunteering
    • one year so far
    • 60 hours
  • Free clinic
    • Started this semester
    • Helping with a project that provides resources to people of low income areas.
  • Tutor for children from lower socio-economic back grounds
    • 1 year so far, still continuing
  • Biology Lab TA
    • Sophomore year
    • Nearly 200 hours.
  • Chemistry Lab Grading TA
    • This year so far...probably around the same number of hours by end of year.
  • Shadowing
    • Physicians of 3 different specialties - 75 hours.
  • Orchestra - one semester Freshman year
    • Section leader
Plans in future:

  • Geriatrics internship next semester
  • Going to Ghana in winter break with Global Medical Brigades
  • Lots more shadowing/ hospital volunteering
  • Participating in a music therapy program.

looks like you're doing a lot! you will only be able to list 15 activities max. when you apply. med schools like to see commitment so if I were you I would just keep at the activities you've already started
