I am pre-pharmacy student and I come across this question: What challenges will pharmacists face and what will you do to overcome this?

I did some research on it, but I am not quit sure what I found is more of a personal problem or a problem that sound be addressed

I found: understaff, overworked, chain pharmacy company take over and expect pharmacists to do more - I am not sure what will I do to overcome these...

Thank you

All those are challenges that practicing retail pharmacists are NOW facing. The biggest challenge for many future pharmacists will be: to be able to find a FRIGGIN' job!

How to overcome the challenge? The answer depends on how low one is willing to go.

No jobs.
High debt.

Pretty much sums it up.

I'm sure there will be others when health care reform goes into full effect, but there really is no way now to know how it will affect the profession. Between that and market saturation, should be interesting to see what happens to pharmacy over the next couple of years.

Nothing's gonna change over the next few years. We might see some changes in 10-15 years. For better or worse.

Many of my friends also think the lack of job and high debt will be the biggest challenges. I agree about the high debt but I think there will still be jobs. You may not be able to work in a big city but if you are willing to move, you will be employed. Don't expect to move back to a big city in a year or two. There are no jobs there. I question whether pharmacy is still worth it anymore.

When you get a new prescription, they are always happy to tell you exactly how the doctor ordered you to take it. They will tell you when it's best to take it. You can ask them anything and they are so helpful. Plus you get that print-out of all the side effects, etc.

So this is one of the challenges pharmacists face? Awesome post on a thread that has been idle for a month!
