Hello,
I am planning to apply in the May, after I read the information on the web, I still have few things I would like to be sure.

I graduated from UCB, based on the Berkeley pre-med advisor, the Chemistry sequence is consist of the fowling classes
(1) CHEM 1A GENERAL CHEMISTRY 4 Semester Unit
(2) CHEM 3A CHEM STRUCT REACT 3 Semester Unit
(3) CHEM 3AL ORGANIC CHEM LAB 2 Semester Unit
(4) CHEM 3B CHEM STRUCT REACT 3 Semester Unit
(5) CHEM 3BL ORGANIC CHEM LAB 2 Semester Unit
(6) MCELLBI 102 SURV BIOCHEM & MOBI 4 Semester Unit
Berkeley ask us to list (1)(2)(3) as 1 year General Chemistry and (4)(5)(6) as 1 year Organic Chemistry.
So the question is:
Should I use type "I" for (1)(2)(3) and "O" for (4)(5)(6)?
(Since the majority of Chem 3A is Inorganic even 3AL has ORGANIC in the title, that's why Berkeley advisor said it should be listed as Inorganic. Also Berkeley advisor ask us to list MCB 102 Biochem class as ORGANIC since by definition BIO is ORGANIC.)

What if I list (1) to (6) as IOOOOT, based solely on the course titles, will the medical schools disqualify me as it looks like I am not meetting 1 year of Ingoranic and 1 year Organic chemistry requirement?

Thank you in advance for help.

Boy, I'd write a stock paragraph that explains all this and be ready to whip it out on AACOMAS and on all your secondaries. And I'd also call some schools and see if they can give you a judgment call.

Berkeley's premed adviser has no authority over med schools, and he/she can't just make up definitions for what "organic" means. That biochem/cell bio class is BIOCHEM. It's not genchem, and it's not ochem. Schools will let you use biochem to cover ochem deficiencies, but you can't cover genchem with biochem. Genchem's more like physics. I think your explanatory battle is going to be to show that you have enough genchem.

Some schools specify the number of units they want to see for each prereq area. I've seen 8 units each at a number of DO schools. On your list, I see 14 units of genchem and ochem, all mixed up. So I'd worry about how to demonstrate that you have 8 units (or more) of genchem in that list.

Best of luck to you.

Dude, your advisor has no authority on filling out your med school applications! Fill in the classes as they are listed on your transcript . . . it's not that complicated, just wait and see when AACOMAS opens in June.

Good Luck :luck:
