Hello Hello,

I'm in a fix. I have a 2.95 GPA now and I'm doing a post bacc. I'm not sure which classes to take next semester. Should I retake an accounting and thermodynamics class to boost my GPA or should I take microbio and biochem for the sake of upper level courses? Also, do DO schools want the lab for microbio and biochem if I go that route? Thanks.

Timmy

Hey Timmy,

Do you think you could do pretty well in the science classes? I would definitely recommend all the science you can get, as I have been told that the more you have, moreso biology, the more prepared you will be for med school. Requirements vary by school, but I think they would prefer the labs with the classes.

This is strictly based on what I've heard, not personal experience! So you might ask your advisor or wait for some more posts!!! Good luck! 😀

I would take biochemistry. Only one D.O. school requires it but most recommend it as it is covered in a very brief amount time in med school. I am taking it this coming semester and it does not have a lab. The college that requires it states you should have 3 credits in it, and that is what the lecture I am taking is worth. Maybe you could retake one of those courses you didn't do so well in with it?

If you have a 2.95 you may want to look at which science classes pulled your GPA down and take more advanced classes in the same subject to show that it may have knocked you down but it didn't beat you. If you got all Cs in chemistry, and all As in bio, why take another bio? Take chem and do well in it.
