Hey guys I need to go over some work tonight but I just can't remember the damn name of it. The lecturer mentioned it was like 'C.... syndrome' and it causes the person to have Gynaecomastic and small testes. Can anyone give me an idea? That's all I remember, plus it was a really weird name, difficult to pronounce.

Klinefelter's syndrome?

congenital adrenal hypoplasia?

That sounds like Klinefelter's syndrome. Especially since you say it started with a c-sound.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klinefelter's_syndrome

cri du chat doesn't involve gynecomastia and small testes but it is another chromosomal abnormality and begins with a "c"/is hard to pronounce. otherwise i'd go with klinefelter's

cushing's syndrome, not really hard to pronounce though.

I would go with Kleinfelters as well . . . if you are sure it is a C though it could be CAH.

CAH could cause small testes, along with ambigulous genitalia. But CAH doesn't typically cause gynecomastia, does it? I thought that it didn't but now I'm getting confused. I didn't think that Cushing's typically caused gynecomastia (or small testes for that matter) either. But I'm just getting more confused the more I think about it.

Studying for Step 1 is turning my brain to mush.

Definitely Klinefelter's (XXY). They tend to be infertile too :-/

...it causes the person to have Gynaecomastic and small testes...

I believe that it is called "Critical Mass' Syndrome," and it is particularly prominent after exam blocks. I definitely didn't have the marbles to handle my last neuro exam.

The most straightforward answer is Kleifelters. However, a possible presentation of 17-alpha hydroxylase deficency is mild undervirulization of the external genitalia and mild gynecomastia. (The gynecomastia presenting at puberty, this would by necessity be a mild case because a serious untreated case would have caused death by that point).

i was pointing at the fact that the increase in ACTH would also increase the release of DHEA from the zona reticularis which is turned into estradiol via aromatase when in excess quantities---> gynecomastia. I think i was also taught excess glucocorticoids could cause hypogonadism but im not entirely sure now. Clearly i was reaching a little since i think the more commonly stated symtpoms of cushings would be buffalo hump, moon face, etc. sorry, i was just trying to think of something that started with a "c".

You need to describe more physical characterisitcs to truly know the correct diagnosis. A quick PubMed search (with gynaecomastic as the key word seach...you also didn't spell gynaceomastic correct...the correct spelling is gynecomastia) shows the likely genetic syndrome is Klinefelter. However, you must present the other characterisitcs to truely know.

Just so you know, gynecomastia is a secondary disorder of the other maladies.

GynAEcomastia is the preferred (and correct) spelling in England, Scotland, Wales, New Zealand, and Australia. Possibly other parts of the world, too. (I'm assuming that the final "c" was a typo.) They also spell esophagus "oesophagus," which took me a good 2 hours to figure out.

OP: If you learn it in the classroom, just go with the classic presentation. CAH and Cushing's may cause gynecomastia (or gynaecomastia, if you prefer - I don't know where you're from), but classically and most commonly the symptoms you described are part of Klinefelter's syndrome. (47 chromosomes, XXY genotype)

Good luck!

I know of condition that starts with C but there is no ambiguity about the genitalia.

Whats it called when you have small boobies and big testicles?

Doesn't this happen with a testicular choriocarcinoma? I think there was a QBank question about this...although with different wording.

I think I'd enjoy a QBank question that used the word "boobies" though. Just for a change of pace.

are u the only student in ur class? you should have asked one of your friends, instead of causing all this. half of the people who posted in this thread did not know what they were even talking about. what a shame.

Kleinfelter's is oK, but Cimetidine syndrome would have been what I was hoping for
