What did you do on your spare time?

Hi! I'm just wondering what all you doctors out there did on your free time? Did you use it to volunteer, and do more extracurriculars? Or what?

I'm now sitting here, and i am wondering, whwat should i do? Of course there's always the R&R thing which is neccessary for me to stay sane 😉.

I'm trying to think what else i can do? I know that there isn't a set ......number of hours, and things you can do for extracurriculars. So i'm not asking that. I'm just trying to find other productive things that i can do which are fun to me. Something that i can benefit as a person, not benefit me by making me get into med school(however if it provides both benefits, i won't complain 😉). I look back, and see what i've done. And i'm pretty proud of myself.

So yea, in summary, what things did you guys do....when you ran out of ideas?Hehe=)

I tutored in college and a little bit in medical school, I found that to be enjoyable but everyone is different. You should try different activities for yourself. If you really enjoy it and find it a worthwhile experience, it probably will look good on your resume.

I'm not in med school yet (only PRAYING for it!), but I wanted to ask...what do you enjoy doing now? I ask only because your question perplexes me a little. When I think of what I'll do in my free time in med school, I think of exactly what I've discovered I enjoy most in life in my free time now. Do you believe that your interests will change?

Your question just piqued my curiosity, that's all. 🙂

Well my interests now is to survive really 🙂. Actually seriosly, i want to get back with coaching swim team and water polo again. I did that for two years, and i enjoyed it a lot. So i'm probably gonna look into that sometime soon.

On the side, i enjoy doing my internships in the Peds ER at my schools med ctr. Theres just not enough time to do lots of things. I'm gonna look into teaching too. Lots of things to out there, but so little time 🙂

In regards to if i think i have time in med school to do whatever i like. What i learned for these years in college+doing research, there's actually enough time out there, as long as you want to use it. This probably contradicts what i said in the other reply, but....its the truth though.

I would probably end up downgrading my fun free time stuff to swimming, friends, and family.
