Let's make a deal: Come pack my house up for a 1,000-mile move, and I'll write your personal statement. :meanie: 😛

Just playin'. 😀

How come this deal didn't come up last year when I was writing mine? 😉

mine went something likes this....

"I was a pharmacist in the third grade. I recall selling Flintstone vitamins during recess period in my very own pharmacy - the monkey bar house, situated in the back of my elementary school. Who knew what first started out as a youthful imitation of a pharmacist would turn into professional desire 14 years down the road." 🙂

I received e-mails from two deans saying that they really liked my intro paragraph.

The best way to get started is just writing whatever comes into your mind while being honest.

Good Luck!!! :luck:

Usually (or atleast in my experience), they have questions for you to answer (i.e. Why this school, why pharmacy). Don't try to get off the beaten path too much or give a bunch of philosophical junk...answer the question clearly and concisely.

If I had written that they would have been completely convinced I am mad (i am of course, somewhat mad, but that would have made it very obvious 😛)

aww nice intro. hehe btw did u REALLY sell vitamins?

Why do you want to be a pharmacist?

Because I always wanted to work on a farm.

hahaha....believe it or not - I did sell vitamins....i think our class was going through a stage of obsession with them - back in the late eighties???

Mine had 2 questions: One was "tell us about yourself" and the other was basically "Explain why you decided to go into pharmacy, and why you think you will be successful in this field and in this program".

In the first one I just discussed school, how I started off in arts, humanities and environmental science courses and once I started taking physics, bio, chem...etc how I realized that those are the subjects I excelled in and really was interested in. And I talked about my grades and in the application it said we should discuss any obstacles, so I talked about my car accident in 2002 and how I had to time to read about pharmacy and think about my future while I was home sick and then I went back to school with a goal....just things like that.
In the second question I discussed my background in pharmacy (where I volunteered, what I did there, why I enjoyed it and why I was good at it), I talked alot about how I interviewed pharmacists and pharm techs and current pharm students about the pros and cons of the field. I talked about my pre-pharmacy club.....anything that had anything to do with pharmacy. I talked about what it takes to be a good pharmacist and I gave examples of times that I proved to have those attributes....

Hope that helps

for me, the fascination with vitamins is as fresh as it was when I was 4. I love them...flavored, chewable , the big horse pill swallowy kind.

The thought of ingesting all those nutrients at once really gets me going.

That's really quite something. I like it. It's different.

Ha, I haven't checked this thread since I started it! But it looks like you guys have something!

I ended up writing about a person I was inspired by... and how in turn helped me make my decision.

Man, I don't know what to say about your intro. To me it feels like a fine mix of creativity, humor, and fine weed.

i opened up my attention getter describing a secretive drug sell down in Tenderloin District, SF. I was only 10 back then and it was scary, Son.

Then I stringed it into helping out a underserved community with my PharmD degree.

to be honest, i think the admission committee fell asleep when they read my personal statement.
even I fell asleep writing it.
