General What do Adcoms Think of Summer Enrichment Programs?

How do you all view Summer Pipeline/Enrichment Programs, things like the AAMC's SHPEP program?

It's nice, but depends on what you get out of it.

What specifically about SHPEP do you want insight about? There are some SHPEP ambassadors who answer questions in the pre-dent forum.

Just asking for more of an insight on how adcoms view the program. As I'm curious as to how it'd compare to spending a summer doing research instead.

You are underestimating the impact of being in SHPEP. Many admissions committees understand why SHPEP exists and highly values individuals who benefit from the mentoring and community that SHPEP provides. It won't help you overcome a bad academic record, but it will give you insights about why healthcare needs those from underserved backgrounds in the workforce. You can always do research another summer, but SHPEP is only involved for those in their first two years of undergrad/community college.
