I really need help here. I am a 2nd year Dental Student in Ghana and the educational system is such that we pursue Human Biology for 3 yrs, get BSc in HB, then continue for clinical studies at a teaching hospital. I am planning on taking the DAT for admission into a dental school in USA after my HB program. I did some internship during the summer and plan on taking another in the UK nxt summer. However my these are my problems; 1) Do the dental schools give preference to international students who studied in USA those who studied in their home country? 2) When should I take the DAT?. I will like to attend dental school the year I graduate. Is it possible to take it in my third (final) year and go to school the nxt yr (supposed to be my forth year)? PLEASE COMMENT BELOW. I REALLY NEED THIS

Sorry I won't be able to answer all of your questions, but as for when to take the DAT, I would suggest taking it the spring time before the application cycle opens up. AADSAS (the application service), typically opens up in the beginning of June. It'd be good to have your test completed much earlier than that. Hope that was somewhat helpful!

When you state that you are a "dental student," it suggests that you will graduate as a dentist in Ghana and need only enter an advanced standing program at a US dental institution, for which you would not have to take the DAT. It seems that you are suggesting that you are on the "pre-dental" track and are looking to gain admission to a dental school in the US. Correct me if this is innaccurate

Agreed.

However, if you won't be graduating as a foreign dentist and just get your BS. You will have to see if American Universities will honor and accept your classes from your Ghana University.

I'm not sure if I'm understanding correctly your situation.
Here are two possibilities for your situation:
Your BSc in HB + clinical gives you the title of a dentist at Ghana. The US dental schools can either:
A)Consider you for transfer, meaning you would have to pass NBDE part 1, and send application as international transfer student with foreign dentist degree. If you get accepted, you start as 2nd or 3rd year dental student depending on schools. If this is the case, you would find more information in dental student form than here.
B) The dental schools doesn't recognize your BSc as a dentist or doesn't let you apply for international transfer program. In this case, you would be going to take all the prereqs at accredited American school, preferably at 4 year University and not CC. Then you would have to take DAT, shadow, etc, just like any other prereqs.

Can you help me with some names of schools that accept international transfers??
