Hey guys. Well, I have finally graduated from UF with a Nutrition degree with a GPA of 3.07. My question is: what do i do now? These are the classes I recieved bad grades in: bio 1 C, orgo 1 C+, orgo 2 D+, physics 1 and 2-C, functional vert anatomy C+ and genetics C. Now which of those classes should I re-take?? Right now my S/M GPA is 2.55. Another friend of mine suggested that I apply for MS in Pharmacy and go forward in life and not backtrack by re-taking classes. I plan on taking the PCAT this October and applying to a few schools this year. Should I still apply?? I'm just really confused right now and any suggestions would be greatly appreaciated. Thank you

I'm not trying to be mean but your friend's advice makes me giggle. Don't go backwards in life by retaking classes? I'm guessing you are in your early 20s. Your life isn't going to be ruined if you take a year to do what it takes to make yourself more competitive. You'll still have decades to be a pharmacist if that is what you want.

As far as the retakes, you will definitely need to retake that D in O chem. I would consider redoing the first semester too. Did you get the low score because you weren't applying yourself or because you didn't understand the material? If it is the latter, then retake both semesters so you can start over fresh and get a good foundation to replace that D.

You aren't backtracking by taking the class over -- by any means.

If you have an interest in pharmacy, there is nothing wrong with fixing your mistakes to become more competitive. You are preparing for a career in which you will hopefully do for the rest of your life. If it takes an extra year or two to get there, atleast you have the satisfaction of knowing you are doing what you what to do.

You will need to retake Organic II. It is important for you to atleast have a C, as a D will not cut it in any means.

I also recommend that you retake biology and study more efficiently and use the resources given to you to succeed. In nine out of ten cases I've read, people did not succeed in this course because they did not apply themselves to the fullest level and they are generally aware of this. The biology portion also will give you a stronger preparation for the PCAT as well.

I understand that once you have graduated, any additional classes you take would be counted towards a seperate GPA, is that correct? If not how would that work exactly?

PharmCAS reports a graduate GPA on your application, however, they also still report your overall GPA to the colleges, which include both undergraduate and graduate studies.

Additionally, most colleges have their own gpa calculations and it's doubtful if they care if they are graduate studies or not.

If you are asking which of those classes to retake, I would say, try to retake all of them.

Off topic, but how do you like nutrition? Did you actually learn how to be a nutrionist, or just about nutrition? I've thought about this before

Well, I enrolled myself at a CC and I plan on taking Bio 1 and Org 1 but I don't know if I should take Physics 1 with it because it would seem like a heavy course load becuase I also work part time as a pharm tech and studying for the PCAT. are these two classes enough for now or should I take more?? Ohh, Answer to jmcfa002's post, I really liked nutrition and I came out as I could be a nutritionist. the classes were interesting. Is getting into a master's program as competitve as getting into pharm school?? thx

You should also retake at least organic, D is not the passing grade, you'll have to retake it anyway and it will bump up your GPA.

If I'm not mistaken, I think that all prerequisites must be at least a C, so you would have to retake the classes you got a C- in as well.
