Hello,

So I'm a freshman in college, and I thought I had my majors planned out to a reasonable extent. I figured that I would major in Neuroscience and Behavior Biology (NBB) and Russian Studies (with a focus on Russian law, culture, government, etc., not language ehehe ). I want to do a double major for sure.

Anyways, now I am having doubts about this. I have a problem: I love classical music and I love to play piano!

Majoring in music had never entered my mind before because:
a) I couldn't picture myself wanting to practice for 5 hours a day
b) Music seems like a more intensive major than Russian Studies, and NBB is very intensive

But very recently I found myself in the performing arts center practicing piano for over 4 hours anyways on a new piece of music.

I'm so TORN! :scared:

WHAT DO MEDICAL SCHOOLS LIKE TO SEE? I figure having a balance between science and social sciences would be nice (Russian and NBB).

But what if I majored in Russian Studies and Music?? Would medical schools look at that and simply shake their head in dismay? Those two majors don't exactly emanate "balance."

All the other music majors are taking Theory at least right now, so I'd be starting behind :/

do whatever you like
I think I would like to do music and Russian, but what if I make a B in one of my sciences, I would be really limited in being able to make that up with more science classes. :/

Double-majoring doesn't give you an advantage on anything. Do what you want to do and just make sure you do well in sciences to leave no doubt.

if you plan to graduate in 2013 and don't wnat to take a full courseload every summer, than pick ONE or the other that you like best. if you do things right you'll have plenty of time for your own interest, and lots of science classes. do you have AP or dual enrollment credits coming in? if so its feasible to do a major in one and a minor in the other and graduate in 4 years without burning out!

take your first year to take a class in each of the subjects you want to major in, and talk to people in those departments to see what the workload is like. music sounds very time consuming, so you might want to make that one a minor, if you keep it as a course of study..

or just do 5 years of undergrad and enjoy it, lots of people do..
