Hello,

I recently switched over from pre-med to pre-dental and am not really sure what pre-dental students do during the summer. So, I was just wondering what kinds of activities people do. I have also been trying to get shadowing positions or internships at dentist offices but lots of people don't seem to want interns even if I'm not asking for money. Do you guys have any tips? Thanks!

Best,

they do the same things pre-med students do over the summer...

I meant are there activities that are focused more towards dentistry. Not just the general lab work most pre-health students do.

....right, thanks for that tip, Cleric7x9.

You could try volunteering at a free dental clinic. Sometimes they will have homeless clinics in your town and they accept pre-dental students. You could also try interning through your school and gain college credit.

In regards to your concern about shadowing work, I would first ask your own dentist. If he/she is unable to accommodate you hit the phonebooks and start dialing down the list. I had to call roughly 25 clinics before I had a response. If there are clinics nearby, it wouldn't hurt to pay them a visit in person and ask as they can get an idea of who are you right on the spot.
