What do you do when you can't focus on your secondaries?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't... do them? You can't write good secondaries if you can't focus on them. Mind break, game break, coffee break, bathroom break. Pick one, come back.

Stop, do something else that is fun. For me, going to the gym, playing video games, doing some reading does the trick. Then get back to it the next day.

Quit for the day. Go to the bar, have some fun, get some drunk sleep. Try again the next day. Repeat as necessary.

Eh, I find that if I start taking "days off" from secondary writing it usually just turns into a multi-day procrastination-fest.

Try taking care of stuff that's less enjoyable than your secondaries. I'm an enormous procrastinator, and my usual excuse for putting off working on mine is usually some other obligation that I could be tending to (Writing papers/researching usually works well). Eventually I'll start looking for a way to put that off too though, and wind up switching back to secondary writing as a "break".

I dunno if that's horrible or not, but it works for me...
