Ok, time for another thread to take our minds off school and apps!

We've had one for what we drove, now let's find out what (besides sig others and kids) we feed every day!

Mine - 3 horses, a 100 year old (came as an old stray 7 years ago!) dog, 1 crippled and 2 fat cats, and now a ferret! Then there's the fat squirrels who run around campus that I throw nuts to.....

Your turn!

Fun! 🙂

Three cats

A Saint Bernard and an English Mastiff....so forty lbs of dog food every 14 days.

18lb cat, 2 12lb cats, 80lb dog, and a turtle. Man, that is starting to sound like a Christmas song!

Two southern flying squirrels. Weigh a hair under 150 grams between the 2 of them.

1 cat (8lbs)
+ 4 rats
________
FUN!

But the rats are not for the cat... 🙂

They co-exist

A 33 lb BC & a 50 lb BC-mutt -- and I'm a dog food snob so they eat Innova much to the dismay of my bank account. I also have to feed a meatatarian husband who would happily eat 3 bacon cheeseburgers per day if I let him. Woe to me if I try to sneak vegi-meat into the stir fry or pasta sauce!!!

Also, a recent addition is a little weeny cat (nearly 4 months old now) that my husband found in one of his fishponds at the museum he works at, and brought home on public transit in a cardboard box.

...oddly enough, the kitten has border collie markings... i'm not even kidding!

Plus a MULTITUDE of fish, & a bullfrog-tadpole. Used to have a female bullfrog but she died earlier this year.

I currently feed only myself! =*(

It's a very sad and lonely existence for an animal lover.... but I didn't feel it was fair to force my 12yr old cat to endure a 3hr car ride with me down to my apartment at school when she was perfectly happy and comfortable staying with my mom back home.

That, and I'm too broke to pay a $300 pet deposit!!! lol

So alas, I just get to see her whenever I go visit home.

One 35 lb dog (Ginny)
One 11 pound cat (Stanzi)
One 5 pound foster kitten (Johnny Cash)
One 4 foot ball python (Doc)
One 5 foot leucistic Texas rat snake (Nelson)
Two 1.5 foot Western Hognose snakes (Josey Wales and Laura Lee)
Two 6 inch African fat-tail geckos (Madmartigan and Lilly)
1 little bitty betta fish (Stipe)

😱😱😱

110 lb Great Pyrenees (Sam)
11 lb 8 month old DSH (Ridley)
8 lb 8 month old DSH (Nyx)
3.5 foot long amelanistic corn snake (Zelos)

Sam and the kittens get Wellness Core and Nature's Variety raw mixed.

Zelos gets frozen/thawed mice!

1 german shepherd mix
2 maltese
1 parakeet
1 turtle-red eared slider (i have fish in there...but she likes her pellets)
So...6 goldfish. lol

I'm so envious of you all!

I'm petless at the moment and regretting the choice to live at a college with a 4-year residency requirement... and no pet-friendly apartments. I'm going to head down to the fish store soon to get a nice little aquarium, but other than that I won't have anything until vetschool.

67-lb Rot/Pit/German Shep mix, 57-lb BC/Lab mix, 54-lb Pit/BC mix, 47-lb Pit/Boxer mix - they all eat a homemade diet (from a nutritionist, of course!) 😉

2 foster dogs, which of course vary but right now are a 50-lb Airedale mix and a 4-lb Chi/Terrier mix, both eat Wellness Puppy

2 7-lb DSH cats + 1 DLH cat eat Wellness Complete Health for Cats

The partridge in a pear tree, my boyfriend and I, all eat Ramen. 🙄

I feed ~220 lbs worth of active dogs (2 Malinois, 1 Malinois/GSD, 1 Siberian husky/Rottweiler) a mix of raw and EVO, California Natural, and Innova. The 2 lbs ferret gets EVO Cat and Kitten. The goldfish gets goldfish pellets. The 400ish gram rat gets a mix of a bunch of random stuff. Lots of fruits, veggies, fancy schmancy organic bread, multigrain Cheerios, and cooked bones with some meat to gnaw on. She's a great garbage disposal, even if she's a nasty little thing. Me and the hubby try to eat as much locally produced stuff as possible and we're expanding our veggie garden for next year. Tastes better and can be cheaper (sometimes).

Hey! my kitten eats wellness core too!

I didn't know they made a dog variety, how does your Pyrenees like it?

Electrophile--
Innova seems a little too rich for my smaller BC, what's your take on the California Natural?

It's the first food that he actually seems to be pretty happy about, and I'd tried a lot of brands prior to this. They actually make a reduced fat version which I had been feeding him previously because he was more overweight and inactive when we adopted him, but now he's lost 15 lbs and is holding steady on the regular CORE. He's been on it for about 8 months and I think it's done very well for him.

Also, the reason I tried the CORE with the cats is because they were CRAZY about getting to the dog's food no matter what else I tried to give them, so I figured maybe the cat version would hold their attention as well, and it has. They love it too. 🙂

An 11.5 lb miniature dachshund (Preston)
and an 11 lb poodle mix (Henry) (see avatar)
and myself!

I feed 4 DSH cats ranging from about 9-14 lbs. each, one 2.2 lb. kitten (saved in a weak moment from certain death due to overcrowding in a shelter and her upper respiratory infection), and one husband. I keep switching cat foods because I keep trying out what my shelter has; I really liked the way the Solid Gold Katz-n-flocken makes their coats look, but it does seem to cause some problems with stool/digestion (it's lamb based and pretty rich apparently). Right now they're on a mix of Diamond indoor cat and Katz-n-flocken, but I've also had good luck feeding Precise Plus adult cat formula. They also get a little scoop of Friskies wet (junk food) as a treat. 🙄 The husband and I don't eat nearly so well as the cats do!

If the Innova is on the rich side for your BC, the California Natural Lamb Meal and Rice or Chicken Meal and Rice may be the way to go. I've had foster dogs on the CN Herring Meal and Sweet Potato and it turned their coats around in 2-3 weeks. I was suitably impressed, but it does smell very fishy (some dogs love it, some do not like the fishy taste/smell). Fortunately for your pocketbook, depending on where you go to vet school, they may have a Natura free feeding program there (my job on campus). 😀 That way you get a free bag or case of cans of any size of Innova, EVO, California Natural, etc a month. That REALLY helps out with my food bill, particularly since my husband lost his job a little over a week ago, so we've had to cut out a lot of the raw just because of $$$. 🙁

Thanks for the advice electrophile, I think I might try him on the CN lamb & rice as he did pretty well on another brand of lamb-based food a while ago!

I fully plan on taking advantage of any and all Natura things that I can get my hands on while in vet school. A hardcore flyball friend turned me on to them and I just can't get enough!

Well, when I'm at school, it's just my goldfish.

At home, it's a little bit more complicated. 🙂 My mom's a science teacher, so we have lots of animals that make their way back and forth between home and the classroom at various times in the year.

Said goldfish
Two dogs (GSD, lab/poodle mix)
One cat
Two guinea pigs
One rabbit
Two rats
Two parakeets
One cockatiel
Four finches
One bearded dragon
Two cornsnakes
One blue-tongued skink
Four anoles
Four White's tree frogs
One horned toad
Two firebellied toads
Two red-eared sliders
Two water dragons
Two African clawed frogs
Two box turtles
One leopard gecko
Two Russian tortoises
Unknown number of hissing cockroaches
One rose-haired tarantula
Two giant millipedes

I think that's it. It tends to change from time to time.

I have one great big baby to feed, a Beagle-Pit mix.... He is a monster! But between my roommates and I, we have 3 dogs and 4 cats who all get different food! Purina, Science Diet, Iams, you name it, they eat it. Oh and an assortment of fish, chicken, fruits and veggies when they are behaving. 😀

I am surprised to say that I manage to feed myself...I also feed:

a 140# handsome great dane
4 large fancy goldfish (including one that has a little black rectangular mustache that makes him look like Hitler...and he hates the Black Moor goldfish and chases him around...and I think that's telling!)
1 big algae eater fish
1 frilly crowntail betta (that voyeuristically lives in a hanging aquarium in my bathroom)
...I'm sure there will be more to come...

Two dogs (Wellness), a prairie dog (veggies, hay and pellets designed for PD's) and when I used to have my horses they ate Nutrena brand.

So apparently I am also indirectly feeding the community of fleas that have somehow gotten to my squirrels....

You wouldn't believe how hard it is to get .006mL of Revolution onto the back of an unhappy 60gram critter..... 🙁 On the plus side a 1 month treatment for a kitten works out to be a 2 year supply for both of my squirrels.

Okay this was the most hilarious thing I've read all day. I totally sympathize, at my hospital I have had to dose tiny, flea-ridden kittens a few times with "1/6 dose" of Advantage -- those were the Dr's written orders, "1/6 dose," HAH! much calculating, and kitten squirming, and insulin-syringe-using later....

Good luck! I'm curious about your unusual pets... when/why/where/how did you get ahold of them?

1/6 of a dose.... I wish. The proper dose for these guys was 1/50 of the kitten dose which was 0.25mL to begin with. To make it remotely doable I diluted it 1:1 with alcohol to get it to the 0.01mL.

When, summer 07. Why, I wanted something different, and sugar gliders are illegal in my state, but Souther flying squirrels are legit. Where, My male came from a school teacher in NY who didn't really have time for him. She got him from an exotics pet store who got him from a breeder on Long Island, NY. My female came from a woman in Tennessee whose male died an tragic death. She let him go so she could find a new friend as the rest of her family was all Northern Flying squirrels. She was originally from a breeder also in TN. Someone going to the flying squirrel convention in NJ last summer carpooled her up for me.

6 cats of my own and ~30 quasi-feral (altered) cats my complex provides shelters for outside. Luckily I get lots of free/cheap food (150-200lbs/month) or I'd be living in the outside shelters with them. I'm sure within 4 years I'll have to seriously consider that option anyway... maybe I should stock up on cat food to live off of

A flying squirrel convention....really?

My rat died the other day.. 🙁

So now I'm down to my 19 lb MinPin, 14 lb cat, 8 lb cat, saltwater aquarium (not much in there other than a trigger and chocolate chip starfish) and my desk buddy, my betta! 🙂

Sorry about your rat, turnandburn.

I feed 4 cats - 1 16-pounder and 3 ~9-pounders. They are all fed in separate areas because they steal each others' food (and one is on a hypoallergenic diet).

3 dogs, greyhound, italian greyhound, and a pug, who all crowd around one food bowl even though there are enough for all of them (not geniuses), an involuntarily owned hamster who is angry at the world, and my horse is boarded so I don't do the regular meals but she looooooves bananas, I think she eats a more balanced diet than I do...

, an involuntarily owned hamster who is angry at the world

I thought ALL hamsters were angry at the world! 😀 One of the meanest animals I've ever met was a little teddy bear hamster in a pet store.

2 cats, 1 goldfish, and 1 turtle.

I know more will be added to that list eventually, haha. 😛

hehe I think that is the truth. When I put her in her exercise ball I can't tell if she enjoying it or really just trying to escape and their teeth are like tiny needles!

Two dogs - one is 66 lbs and the other is 13 lbs (Solid Gold Barking at the Moon), one guinea pig (fresh veggies, hay, pellets), and my hungry boyfriend

My hamster is a Syrian, but she's the sweetest thing in the world. She's really shy but doesn't bite. Except she bites my ex-roommate, that's the only person!

We've handled her since she was 2 months old (she's 1 year and 3 months now) and she still acts like we're about to swoop down and kill her when I come up to the cage. But she's not aggressive. I used to have a sweet male last year who only nipped my fingers because I always hand fed him treats and he thought they were food!

Anyway, here's what I have:

2 betta, one male (red/white halfmoon) one female (dunno, but she's a gorgeous blue/red, she's spunky, and her finnage is almost-male-like but they've attempted mating before so I know she's female!): I feed them Hikari Betta Bites, sometimes a pea here and there, and sometimes a freeze-dried blood worm
9 baby platys (red tuxedo/blue cross, 3 months old): Tetra tropical flakes
1 hamster (Syrian): Some type of hamster block, dunno the brand, along with frutis and veggies and occasionally a seed mixture for a treat
Soon to come: Foster dogs! I have yet to hear from our local shelter veterinarian yet but hopefully she'll contact me soon and I can start filling my apartment with more tangible animals! lol

I don't have a pet currently... But I feed about 80, rapidly increasing in number, naked mole rats and my husband!!!🙄

Oh this is a fun thread!

At home:
1 umbrella cockatoo (Harrison pepper life maint.)
1 small dog (iams- small & toy)
1 cat (purina- indoor)

At school:
1 parrot colony (14 birds total, we're doing nutrition work on these guys so it varies)

Wow! Is someone a big fan of 'The Matrix', or what?😀

Matrix kids! Love it!

Me: 2 x 16-yr-old tabbies (see avatar): Fancy Feast, Weruva, Wellness, Merrick (whatever they'll eat--they're picky, geriatric kitties!), plus Tapazole, Calcitriol, sub-Qs, etc., etc...

1 x cranky, fat (16lb.), 9-yr-old DSH: same as above (too much of it)

1 35lbs Dog, 2 15lbs Dogs, 1 15lbs Cat, 1 5lbs Kitten, 3 Chinnies, a small parrot, a vet student (also known as my husband 😀 ), and a fetus (but he/she is still too small to count really)

The Dogs and Cats all eat Science Diet, the Chinnies eat Hay Pellets and Loose Hay, the bird eats rainbow colored pellets (and begs for more seed to be added to his dish), and the humans, well we eat lots of veggies.

1 dog
2 cats
1 donkey
30 chickens and 2 roosters (they're our garbage disposals! they'll eat anything!)
2 rams
~70 sheep and their lambies

Yup, LucyLoo!
Huge Fan!!!
(the original plan was to name the rottie Tank or Dozer, but she turned out to be a girl and a delicate one at that. She may weigh a lot but she prances like a princess- especially around Morpheus....who seems to dislike her with a passion- judging by the full facial attack he brought on the day we brought her home from the shelter...) we've been feeding them next to each other to try to get Morphie to associate yummy things with her...so far its made things better- but she keeps a 3 foot radius from him at all times. Niobi seemed a lot more fitting.

Mouse was going to be next on the list- but fiance put his foot down at 4... (we'll see about how long he can stay firm about it though- he's a bigger mushball than I am!)
🙂
