Hey, I really value everyone on SDN's opinion. I was wondering what you thought about my chances with the following stats:

(These will be my stats when I submit my application.. I am taking summer classes)

Overall Gpa: 3.02
Science: 2.82
BCP: (about the same I think)
Non-science: 3.40

I haven't taken the DAT yet but I plan to within the next couple of weeks. So far, I am scoring around 20's...I am trying to improve this as high as I can. (What DAT do u think I need to have to make up for my lackluster GPA?) My GPA is low not because of excessive partying like most people, but rather because I was unprepared for the challenge of college. In high school, I didn't have to study very hard to receive good grades, I was a naturally bright student and I thought it would be the same in college, plus I entered college at the ripe age of 16, so I probably wasn't mature enough either. I got all A's in my classes this semester, 4 of which were science courses, so there is somewhat of an upper trend. I have extensive experience volunteering, dental assisting, and shadowing, and research experience. So.... whaddya think?? 😳

not prepared for the rigors of college? How long did you need to adjust? 2-3 years?

But anyways, getting 21/22's across the boards would greatly increase your chances. 20's would make them give you a look. 18/19 you'd be pretty average.

Just my thoughts. You look like a good applicant, but you might have to take a year to bring up the GPA.

CJWolf is right. You don't need a rock-solid gpa to get accepted. Yes, your gpa is at the border, but if you rock that DAT you will definitely get in. Your volunteering, research experience and dental assisting is definitely a plus.

Just for a reference, here are my stats:

3.08 gpa
2.92 science gpa

21 AA
20 TS
18 PAT

1 acceptance, 1 waitlist

The level of competition and number of applications is rising. Therefore, its imperative that you apply as early as possible.

This is SO TRUE!!! If you can get your science GPA up, do it!! Take an extra science class or something, b/c you will better your chnaces if you can get that GPA up to a 3.0. Look at the schools you want to apply to, b/c I know some schools have a 3.0 minimum GPA.

Well, this is just my advice so take it at that, but Good luck!!

Thanks for all your opinions 👍
