does anyone know if DO/MD schools look less favorably on students who are not full-time students? I have always been full-time, but starting this fall, i will be cutting back my hours drastically (taking only 2 classes). Since I work between 30-50 hrs a week, my grades have been suffering. i decided to cut back hoping i could concentrate more on those few classes and get better grades in them. But do you think med schools will not look favorably on that? No matter what, I am still cutting back, I just wanted an opinion.
Thanks in advance.

My opinion is do whatever it takes to raise that GPA!

At the interview you can explainin how you balanced an incredible workload and tremendous responsibilities at home and actually were able to also complete your prerequisites by attending school part time at night!

thanks for your advice. i was getting a bit worried that maybe it would look bad or something. hopefully, my strategy will work and i'll be able to breeze through organic (knock on wood). thanks again.

I agree with Skypilot. If you are working a significant number of hours in addition to school, and your school is suffering--cut back. If you continue to worry about what the adcom will think, you can always explain it further in your personal statement.

Best of luck in your journey.

thanks guys, you are all being very encouraging. i appreciate it. 🙂

The fall of my 1st year (I'm a non-trad) while I was taking Gen. Bio & Chem, I was in school full time and working a ridiculous amount of hours. I came pretty damn close to a nervous breakdown. Luckily for me, I worked in a hospital as a Nurse's Aide and the Charge Nurse was very supportive of me - she let me knock my schedule back to just weekends. My advice would be to place the priority on your GPA. Thats going to carry more weight than how many hours you worked.
Good luck!

ps- enjoy organic. I sure did. ;-)
