So for just a general resume, what do you guys usually put? You have your name, contact information, and work experience and stuff, but what else? As students would you put your school, year, current gpa, awards, published works? What about like major and minor and that stuff?

You can put whatever you want on a resume. You should put down a few of your prominent awards, and maybe your major area of study, but don't put down too much information. A resume is supposed to spark interest in you, not provide the full rundown; that's why most resumes are only 1 to 2 pages. If you want to provide a CV (curriculum vitae), and I highly recommend you start on yours early, you can do so separately. That's where you put in everything you've ever done in your life.

For more information, I would go to your college's career center, they almost always have a resume building workshop or someone who can look over one. Otherwise, you can ask someone to professionally design your resume. Of course, the price tends to be pretty high for that sort of thing, but the product's pretty good. I know a few people you can ask if you want. Just PM me if you need further info.
