Hey I just want to get some opinions real quick. What do you think of the programs that promise you a spot in their med school when you apply as an undergrad? I know MSU has a program like this, where they admit 10 students a year that do 4 years of undergrand and 4 years of med school, but are not required to take the MCAT's and are only required to keep a G.P.A. of 3.2 and participate in different programs and classes as an undergrad. What do ya'll think of these programs?

I think it's a great way to go. having a 4-4 year program is good because it really lets you develop yourself and activities. and if u wanna step back after 4 years u can do that. and have whatever major you want. and believe me, when you're studying for the MCAT, everyone wishes they didn't have to take it. it's hell. if you're happy enough with the school, go for it. gluck getting in.

If you're happy with the school then you might want to consider it. But be aware that med schools vary alot in the way their curriculum is arranged, amount of patient contact in pre-clinical years, how much autonamy you have in 3rd year, etc., etc. You may want the freedom to apply to different schools when the time comes (is there a way out of the program?).

trust me, you're vision of the world can change easily while in college. I don't think these programs are great because if you suddenly decide Michigan is pretty bland for your standards and you'd like to live in a city like Los Angeles or New York, you'll be pretty much stuck.

Sorry to mislead you guys, but I am going to be a junior in college, so I've missed my chance getting into one of these programs. 🙂 I was just curious what you all thought because I saw an old friend of mine who is in one of these programs and was curious what everyone thought about these.

They're okay, but I've known a lot of people who have backed out of the one at my school because they realized they were interested in something else. As long as you have the freedom to do that (and you allow yourself the option of that), then I think they're okay. I personally didn't apply because I didn't want the monotony of staying in one place for 8 years, and I also wanted to have to really work towards medicine to make sure it was what i wanted.
