Hey all, just a quick question. I have two C's on my transcript, heres the deal. I got two B's first semester of freshman year in Gen. Chem and Gen. Bio. Then got Two C's for the second semester. I had already decided to leave that college before the semester was over (second semester) and so I didnt care or even try. I went on to paramedic school, and then finished up a BS in Management. I completed the major other prereq's (physics, O. Chem, A & P) with A's. My gpa is a 3.41 and my science gpa is a 3.4. I have 6 years of EMS experience, with 3 of that being a full time paramedic. I would love to do med school, not sure if that grades are good enough. I still have to sit for the MCAT and see what I can get for a score (I have to keep working full time and thus have taken the long way around). Any advice, would those C's, in your minds, cause me issues? It was early in my college career and I have shown marked improvement in upper levels.

Thanks Everyone!!!!

If you want to goto osteopathic schools you should be fine. It maybe more difficult to get in to allopathic schools, but it will also depend on your MCAT. If you do well, I'm sure you'll have many choices to come.

What classes you got "C"s in?
Were they science or something else?

hi. i'm not proud of this, and I certainly wouldn't recommend C's to anyone, but I got accepted to several med schools with 2 C's. (biochem and ochem2). It happens, and everyone has different reasons for it...Sounds like you have really good other things so I wouldn't fret too much. if you get a good MCAT score u should be ok. not sure how long ago your C's were but mine were 5 years ago and they weren't even brought up. SInce you have done much better and other pertinent medical things I think you're alright. If you have time to retake the classes (if they are science) then I would maybe. hope this helps. :luck:

No, the 2 C's won't be a problem. Most people have AT LEAST that many.

I also think it's ******ed for people to be ashamed of getting a C. What is the big difference in getting a 79, versus an 80. It could be a single question on a final exam for some people. What is the big deal? The 5 medical schools I interviewed at didn't seem to think it was a problem that I had 2 C's in Chemistry.

I'm not mentioned the other multiple C's I may or may not have earned.......

Gen. Chem II and Gen. Bio II

I am not ashamed of the C's. I was just wondering if anyone else has been or was in a similar position and how they fared.

Definitely doable. I had one C on my transcript - general chemistry II. One of my interviewers asked about it specifically.

Just be honest, and be confident. Besides, if you can get an A in organic chemistry after a C in general chemistry you probably don't have much to worry about.

There is a chance that if you took those classes at a community college and got A's it might not be held as highly as if you had done so at a major university. A former med student who sat on admissions commitees told me that.

I have heard of people with C's getting into medical and people with C's who only got into carribean schools? I think what matters in cases where their are average grades are your letters of rec and your hospital experience..

I had 2 Cs on my transcript and nobody really even made a big deal out of it whatsoever. It was early in your education, as long as your grades were better in the end, I think you'll be fine.

Don't worry so much about the grades. Years ago, I was kicked out of school for subpar academic performance (of course I had understandable reasons). I ended up returning to college 3 years later. I demonstrated an upward trend, volunteered, got some clinical experience, and was ultimately accepted to 3 MD programs and the only DO program I applied to. I'm now finishing up MSII while anxiously awaiting my rotations to begin.

Good luck to you. If you want to be a doctor, then don't let 2 measly Cs stand in your way.

Cyndi
