Hey guys, I am a long time reader, first time poster. I just wanted to give you my stats and ask you HONESTLY what you think my chances are to getting in. This is the second year i have applied.
Currenly, I am finishing my 4th year Biology degree. Up to date, I have a 2.89 BCP and a 3.1 overal GPA.
I am writing my DAT again in November ( I am a Canadian Student).
I have about 30 hours in dental experience and some volunteer work.
I have applied to NYU, VCU, Las Vegas, UCSF, Howard, Tufts, Loma Linda, Boston and Meharry.
I sent in my application in the end of August.
SO FAR, I have got rejected from UCSF and from Loma Linda, but no inteviews.

What are my chances, if any? Please be honest. Thanks so much.

I heard that this application cycle may become more competitive then last years. Last year 855 ppl applied to the U of Minn. and just this week they said that they have recieved 1000 so far. I am not sure if the increase is everywhere though. Your GPA quite frankly is hurting. I think that you need to do extrememly well in the DAT to have a shot.

Good luck

how well? are we talking like 18s across my DAT or much higher.
I have the kaplan study guide and have been studying for the last 2 weeks or so, but I still have class. Do you think that is suffice amount of time?
thanks

i don't know if 18s would do it. this year for my class, the average was a little over a 19.

i am attending LSU. surprisingly, all of the stats for my class went way up from the previous year, even after hurricane katrina.

i think w/ a 3.0 gpa you'll need 20+ on the DAT cuz this year's competition is sick. you'll need to study a whole lot more than just part time for two weeks. i think maybe more like two months and really focus on just the DAT. i thought last year was competitive, but it looks like this year is a lot worse.

I agree.

I have a gpa higher than 3.5 and DAT higher than 20 in all sections.
I applied on may 15th took the DAT in June.
I have applied to about 20 schools and about half don't give a shat about me. So I would say apply next year to be frank beause you still need to take the DAT. Get a 20+ to feel confident.

I agree with dddsmack. Get some ECs, get ready for the DAT, and strengthen your overall application before applying next year. If you are URM or have a state school then your chances of acceptance improve. Right now you are pretty late in the application cycle and schools have indicated that your application is not complete. Schools have indicated to me that if the application is not complete and at their school by end of September your chances decline substantially.

You should look up the under 3.0 GPA thread. Lots of good information there that could help you out. You could also apply now to start a MS program to next year to strengthen your application.
