More specifically, do they tell you why you didn't get in? How personal is it? I'm guessing it depends on how far into the process you went, but I'm obviously not sure.

Thanks all!! 😀 👍

no, they wont tell you why other than mentioning a numbers crunch. there may be a personal detail but 95% of them will be form letters.

nothing to look forward to

Nope?they basically say thank you for applying but you are not being offered a position in the class of 200X. It?s basically a dear John letter.

Usually they are a single page letter in a thin envelope.

Most of the letters I got this year were the usual "many competitive applicants" and "tough decisions" and "this is in no way a reflection of your suitability to become a physician."

Very seldom do they actually tell you what they didn't like about your application. That will be up to you to follow-up with the admissions office/director of admissions. It is always a good idea to solicit feedback from the places you did not get into so that you know what to work on should you have to apply again (hopefully not, but just in case 🙂 )

Also keep in mind that every now and then, a school will send a rejection via email. It is tacky to say the least, but there's not a lot you can do about it.

Good luck!

I've never seen or heard of a letter that offered any individual detail as to why you don't get in. The only way to get this kind of info is to talk to an admissions director/dean or to one of your interviewers.

Yeah, I got one of these babies when I applied to junior honors... 🙁

Sounds more like the inside wrapper of an instant-win candy bar.

Remember the undergraduate application days? Checking the mail every day and feeling like crap when you get the ?thin? envelope?. 😱

 ...it's about as personal

One of my acceptances came in a thin envelope. This is defnitely not the norm though. Many schools will call you about your acceptance before sending out material. Rejection letters suck. I was totally devastated after my first rejection. My first post-interview rejection was even worse. Don't despair, you will invariably receive rejections, but hopefully acceptances also. There's no rhyme or reason...oh yeah, email rejections suck!!!!

If there's a specific school whose letter you'd like to see, I'm sure I've got it. 🙄

best feeling in the world = big envelope

So in other words, here's hoping for a thick-ass cardboard box filled with brochures, housing info, and payment option information.

On the other hand, they might just send a box filled with packing peanuts and then at the bottom would be a fortune cookie sized piece of paper with, "Ha ha, you loser! What were you thinking?"

You should get a call before you see anything in the mail. Get an answering machine that will allow you to "dial in" to check your messages remotely.

If I ran a medical school I would fax the non-aceptees with the statement:

LOL U SUX

Or just a little WTF were you thinking. A PR school wouldn't even take you...as a matter of fact your mom relinquished any maternal rights to you...Hell even your dog hates you now.

get used to rejection letters, its all part of the process and makes for a very humbling experience.

Wow. I had no idea about that one. 👍

that's not the case with every acceptance. sometimes the envelope just shows up: "oh, hello there nice big envelope..."

Thin letters= 13
Thick ones= 2

Rejection sucks, but acceptance wipes it clean.

I was going to say big envelope is good, small is bad. I saw one of each from the same school go to the same house on the same day; we wouldn't have even needed to open them to tell who got what. Also, I didn't get any phone calls with mine.

Actually, all my acceptances were in small envelopes...

goodness, how many did you get? 🙂

I don't live in the US, so take that in consideration. Out of a possible 4 acceptances ( in my state, 19 year olds college students can enter 4 med schools once college ends ), I got 3. Only Mcgill didn't accept me 🙁 Well, I couldn't care less right now, eh ? 😳

Dear So and So,

You suck. Why did you think you could ever go here? If i had more time I'd come over to your house, slap you in the face, and kick your dog...but I'm a busy man and I have a lot of these to write, so this will have to do...
You = 👎

Sincerely,
Harvard

I ended up getting into a nice top 5 school...but the list of schools that rejected me is long and prestigeous 😀
