Does "courses in humanities and social and behavioral sciences" mean that if I don't take psychology or neuroscience I am not fulfilling the behavioral requirements? I have music/anthro/history classes under my belt. is that good enough? the quoted text is from IU med.

IU (Illinois, right?) kind of sneaks up on people with their behavioral science reqs.

Psychology is the most common way people fill these. But I was able to use an anthro class and a couple of social linguistic classes to fulfill it.

If you have classes you think might/should work, email the course descriptions to the school, and they may approve them.

Better yet, if you have time, actually take classes you know will count if you are interested in applying.

I plan to apply to IU med as well and I just noticed this. At IUB the advising office never really talked to me about this, and on my next visit I am going to ask them what exactly it means. Of course, I could email the school for a clear answer...

Anyways, do they consider economics a social science? I am reaching here I know, but I got credit for it in high school and since they accept AP credit for calc maybe they would for that too.

I do not know for sure about this, but there was a bunch of talk about IU's requirements at the beginning of the app season, and I don't think economics counts.

You could doublecheck with the school or search through the early pages of the school specific thread.

I just think this is a really interesting requirement. Many of my friends are neuroscience majors who have it covered and probably don't even realize it. My friends and I talk ALOT about pre-reqs and such and this requirement has never come up. Maybe they think it is a safe bet that you will take something like psychology sometime. It is pretty common, but honestly I think it sounds awful and boring.
