🙂 Hey all, I just wanted to say that I'm kinda new to SDN and thank you for taking your time to answer my concerns. I've recently known that I got into multiple pharmacy schools. I learned that postgraduation is just as competative as pre-pharmacy. What I want to know is what will make me a competative pharmacist when finding a job?? For example, does choosing which schools you get into make a difference, or working during Rx school, or does your grades or degrees you earned pre or post pharmD. make a difference?

competitive? not yet?

aside from spelling "competitive" correctly if it shows up on a resume (misspellings = automatic bottom of the pile for anal-retentive people)....

good references and stellar performance during IPPE/APPE's, good GPA will help for residencies (getting in the door).

make sure you're not a ******* or a douche during the interview...have a personality and make it seem like you fit in.

I'm sorry what year are you

ummm i am a 2nd year pharm student...are you talking about residency....because if you are you should state it as such. For all I know you might be talking about retail. So which one are you talking about?

residency is competitive
retail isn't that competitive.

Well I mainly want to go into Retail, but then again I might go for residency so kinda both🙄

retail..used to say a pulse and a license...maybe a little more now....since the jobs are not as much as they used to be.....I know in my area alot of chains are only hiring their interns...

and pharm residencies are not that competitive yet....I know plenty of folks that are going out for them that I would not let anywhere near me. :scared:

Do well on your rotations. The preceptorship you work with can be your future employer as well as a reference. I got into hospital pharmacy without a residency because of my work ethic during my 8 week adult med rotation.

I'm in Florida and a lot of the higher ups are Gators. Gators like to hire Gators. My last boss went to FAMU and she preferred FAMU grads but I made an impression. When a job opened where she is now the clinical director, she phoned me first.

It will always be about who you know. The best jobs don't even make it to a job board to be posted. So, make good contacts & do well on rotations.

If you want to do retail, ignore my advice. Just keep an even temper and let people walk over you.

This is the truth. Its why I landed a job interning at a hospital as a P1 without a clue. They know my work ethic and attitude and thats the hardest thing to know about the person youre hiring.
