Hi

What does it really take to get into dental school?
Would a 3.7+ GPA, 21+ DAT, Two or three clubs, 50+ hrs shadowing, volunteering @ your local library suffice?
Or what does?
Looking at the # of applications recieved vs number of seats in schools (general scope), most schools accept around 5% of applicants. What kind of chance is this? Is there an academic gap between the people who get accepted vs. people who do not? (i.e. do most people who apply to dental school have really really bad stats?)

I'm just wondering how it is possible to get accepted when you are only a fraction of the total applicants.

You increase your odds by applying to more than one school. There is some luck involved as well. It is indeed 5% per school, but lets say you applied to 15 schools than it will greatly increase your chances granted that you have a competitive stat to begin with.

The stat you mentioned is more than sufficient to grant you many interviews. However, how you performed in your interviews will also carry some weight as to whether you are accepted or not.
