Hey! I know everyone says you need high GPA/DAT to get into Harvard but what else does it take to get in? If anyone could post their stats that could be great!

You should probably go to the Harvard Dental school specific thread. You will find all your answers there. You can also look at the previous year threads too

Class of 2022 stats:

Class size: 35
DAT AA: 23.8
oGPA: 3.9
sGPA: 3.9
Age range: 20-25 (avg. 22)

Disclaimer: These are averages. What's nice about HSDM is that they really want to get to know you. As with most other schools, they look at your whole application and not just the stats. Admissions wants to see what you're passionate about rather than a checklist of what you think they want.

So first they take all the high stats students and then they look specifically at the whole student I’m guessing haha. Do you know what’s the lowest gpa and DAT for the class?

I don't know everyone's situation, but anecdotally I know a classmate with a GPA around the 3.7ish range and a DAT around 22.

Research publications help tremendously. I got in a long time ago, but I'm not as smart number-wise as the current average gpa/DAT scores imply, but they want to see your character during the interview. I think the more important question is why do you want to go Harvard and does your personality fit the academic mindset/mood/setting? If not, you're going to be miserable for 4 years. It wasn't for me, and I think students should always think whether that school is really for them. This assumes that you have a choice of dental schools. That's why the student interview/lunch is really important. You get to see the behind the scenes of what's really going on and whether students are happy. You'll be surprised when students tell you not to go to their school.

I think that far too often, we think that we have to conform to what the school wants, rather than picking a school that has the culture that's compatible with the way you operate.

This is great advice for any school! At one school that I was 100% certain I would attend if I had gotten in, the students were incredibly sad during the lunch and digging deeper with them made me realize why pretty quickly. For HSDM, research definitely helps, but I personally had no research on my app,

If you weren't involved in research, how did you stand out to HSDM?

To be honest, I didn't think I'd even get an interview when I was applying let alone get in. For every one of us the answer would be a bit different. I didn't think I had anything that made me stand out that much. I was very passionate about being a chem and orgo TA, but I'm not sure if that's what did it. For me, I think the interview was the biggest factor of being admitted along with the supplemental essays.

We'd prefer not to talk about our individual stats, but the average stats for HSDM are further up the thread. This post by Doc Toothache also has some stats including min GPA and DAT for all the different schools along with other stats if you're interested: 2015 Guide to Dental School Admission
