Question, what drives you guys to become a doctor. Lets face it it's a long road for most of us but for the most part we stick with it. So what's that "glue" that keeps you on track?

Can't believe people are into all that. I'd rather live in a closet in Manhattan than a palace in Idaho to be honest.

I don't know and I'm too confused to consider anything else.
Why would you want to live in Manhattan? Why would you choose the location in America with the highest cost of living and the highest population density?
I don't see what's wrong with California either. It feels comfortable here. I have no complaints.
...And so on. Repeat with Minnesota, parts of Wisconsin, most of the Northeast, Western Canada, etcetera.
California is hell. If it had a face, I would punch it.

There are two cities in this world: New York and London. The rest are villages with various attractions.

One major difference between NYC and the mountain west:
I can drive 3.5 hours and be in Washington DC
3.5 Hours to Boston (college town USA)
1.5 Hours to Philadelphia (I was there visiting friends at Jefferson & Penn this weekend)
1 Hour to the Jersey Shore, 2.5 Hours to the Hamptons (beaches 😀 )
6 Hours to Montreal (the nightlife is amazing)
You could live 8 hours away from the next major metropolitan area out in the west, the distances are enormous. I love driving and I love visiting my friends! It's great to be centrally located in good ol New York
No. No fairness. I have seen almost every part of Can'taffordya and it only gets mildly less hideous as you approach the Oregon border.
or you can be in Los Angeles, and have the best weather around! wear a tshirt all year around, go snowboarding and then drive an hour to the beach, and maybe stop by hollywood for some clubing! or find anything you would ever want within a 50 mile radius, ......
is nobody here motivated by the good feeling you get when you do good things for the world? Damn 🙁
grew up in WA state, lived in socal for 4 years. Most of cali sucks but there are plenty of scenic places, especially along the coast. More important than that though, it's always so gray in WA. growing up i never thought the rain and gray skies bothered me, but now, having lived in cali, living in the PNW really puts me into a funk. it's soo nice to live in the sun, more than i ever admitted to myself growing up in WA
Going from California to Washiongton, I feel the same way. The first chance I get (i.e., med school, residency) I am OUT of here! I love the rain, but 300 days of it is no fun. Raining on 4th of July (5 out of the 6 years I've been here) is no fun. The predicted forecast this week (fog and rain) is no fun.

Not exclusively, unless we're identifying someone who is going to burn out when faced with non-compliant patients with life-threatening chronic conditions, and mountains of paperwork.
Life isn't a Hallmark card. Wanting to go into it solely because you want the warm feeling that comes from healing lepers with a smile and violently expelling rainbows from every orifice isn't going to last.
hahaha speaking off topically about the worst place to live in has to be central canada (I'm there). Absolute garbage, all flat land most of it is for farming (not my city). It is redic. I always wanted to move to LA or NYC actually, Florida sounds pretty sweet too 🙂.
